The film premiered at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on March 25, 2024, and hit theaters on March 29. The film received mixed reviews, holding a score of 53% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and 91% from audiences. It has grossed over $196.3 million domestically and over $567.6 million worldwide, making ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ the highest-grossing film in the Monsterverse franchise. The film has a runtime of 1 hour and 55 minutes.

What’s next for the MonsterVerse franchise?

After directing two films in the MonsterVerse, Adam Wingard left the franchise due to scheduling conflicts. However, the studio already has the next film in the works. The next installment is set to release on March 26, 2027 with a new director, Grant Sputore, at the helm. The sequel could see the return of characters like Rebecca Hall’s Dr. Ilene Andrews, Kaylee Hottle’s Jia, Brian Tyree Henry’s Brnie Hayes, and potentially Dan Stevens’ Trapper.

For physical media lovers, the monster action film is now available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD, and will include featurettes such as an in-depth look at Hollow Earth and the Monsters of Hollow Earth, a behind-the-scenes look at some of the film’s most epic scenes, and a commentary track with director Adam Wingard, visual effects supervisor Alessandro Ongaro, production designer Tom Hammock and editor Josh Schaeffer.
