Health: Governance and Internal Audit Team inspects services in Fayoum hospitals
The Ministry of Health and Population has begun implementing the second phase of the field inspection campaign on medical facilities in all governorates, in implementation of the directives of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, in an effort to communicate directly with citizens, raise the efficiency of medical facilities, provide quality health services, and monitor and address any shortcomings in the level of medical services.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that the second phase of the field inspection campaign targeting Upper Egypt governorates began with the inspection of the governance and internal audit team at Fayoum Chest Hospital in Fayoum Governorate, in the presence of Dr. Wagdy Amin, Director General of Chest Diseases at the Ministry.
«Abdel Ghaffar» added The team inspected the reception departments, outpatient clinics, internal department, intensive care, and endoscopy, to check on the health status of patients, and ensure the availability of all needs and supplies. The traffic team also inspected the sterilization department, isolation, and waste room, to ensure the application of infection control standards and the safe disposal of medical waste.
«Abdel Ghaffar» continued that the team reviewed the patients’ files at the admission office, and the services provided in the emergency department, and noted the absence of alcohol and the unavailability of masks in the triage room, where directives were given to quickly provide all supplies, while the team praised the cleanliness of the hospital and the efforts of the infection control team, and the commitment of the work team.
«Abdel Ghaffar» added The team completed its field tour in Fayoum Governorate, by inspecting Fayoum Eye Hospital, visiting the outpatient and reception departments, and the examination building (radiology). The team listed the old and new devices and supplies, where instructions were given to carry out periodic maintenance work on the devices at their scheduled times. The team also prepared a memorandum on the hospital’s needs for devices and supplies, shortages of medicines, and needs for human resources.
«Abdel Ghaffar» pointed out that the quality officer in the governance and internal audit team noticed the absence of a room for patient files, where measures were immediately taken to provide a special room for patient files away from the ticket window, to prevent overcrowding and crowding and to ensure the comfort of patients, in addition to demanding the allocation of a team to work on patient records and follow-up. The Governance and Internal Audit Team, led by Dr. Nagwa Al-Ajami, visited Fayoum General Hospital and inspected the outpatient clinics, in addition to the regular radiology department. The team made some observations regarding the registration in the children’s clinic records, and requested the addition of a section for examinations, so that it becomes clear that the diagnosis was based on reviewing the patient’s examinations. The team also requested updating the surveillance list, and recommended training nursing staff on it. The traffic team requested that shelves and files that were inside the radiology department be moved, and this negative was actually avoided by providing a storage room upon completion of the traffic. The team also requested that a broken air conditioner be moved from the radiology department, adding that the team listened to two cases that received a discount for x-rays, and directed that they be transferred to social services to conduct a social investigation, and the cost of the x-rays was reduced by 75%. It was also directed that a woman be transferred to the initiatives room to register her and conduct more tests.
«Abdel Ghaffar» continued that the traffic team noticed the crowding of the clinics, and the absence of security or workers to organize the movement of visitors between the clinics. The team also noticed that the ultrasound device in the women’s clinic was broken, and it was directed to repair it or move it from the clinic, after learning that there was another device and a fetal examination device in the women’s department on the fourth floor.
«Abdel Ghaffar» said The traffic team inspected the reception department and requested training for its employees. It also inspected the operations department and directed that the list of operations be registered and that cases referred to health insurance or state expenses be followed up. The team also inspected the hospital laboratory and noticed shortages in equipment and supplies, and directed that they be provided quickly.
