Legal Advisor to Pope Tawadros: The issue of the Palestinian people is "Our cause is all ours"
Counselor Bishoy Basil, legal advisor to His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, said, “The cause of the Palestinian Arab people is our cause all together,” stressing the rejection of violence, aggression, theft of history, falsification of heritage, and all attempts aimed at distorting our history and civilization and obliterating the Arab identity.
This came in a speech by Counselor Bishoy Basil during the activities of the “Arab Youth, Guardians of History and Identity” initiative, which was launched today, Monday, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League. Basil noted that Pope Tawadros is always keen to highlight the Arabism of Egypt’s Copts and their strong bias towards legitimate Palestinian rights and their constant interaction with the difficult circumstances suffered by the Palestinian people throughout the past decades. He mentioned the mixing of everyone’s blood in the wars that the region fought to preserve its dignity, pointing out that the Coptic Church always cooperates with Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in a historical harmony and embrace witnessed under the banners of Arab nationalism and Egyptian nationalism.
He continued that the Coptic Church, which includes the largest number of Christians in the Middle East, has been and still is committed to its principles, adhering to its constants, supporting the consolidation of the spirit of belonging and preserving the Arab identity.
He stressed that the Copts of Egypt are an integral part of the ancient Egyptian fabric that respects beliefs, believes in the homeland and adheres to its constants, at the forefront of which is Arab nationalism, pointing to the decisive positions of Pope Tawadros II in this context, affirming the Coptic Church’s belief in the homeland Egypt, which was and will remain a clear beacon of Arab nationalism.
Counselor Bishoy Basil concluded by saying: "We declare our support and solidarity with the vision and noble goals of the Arab Youth Initiative, Guardians of History and Identity, under the slogan "Jerusalem is Arab"."
