Carrara, Gold Coast: Woman, 46, is arrested over the death of 10-year-old girl whose throat was slashed – as neighbours in family-friendly suburb speak of their shock

A 46-year-old woman has been arrested over the death of a 10-year-old girl whose throat was slashed at a home on the Gold Coast.

The girl’s father is believed to have found her at their home in Emerald Lakes, in Carrara, just after 6pm on Tuesday.

He called triple-zero but paramedics were unable to save her. The arrested woman was known to the girl, police said.

‘At this point in time we are treating the death of the 10-year-old girl as suspicious, and investigations are currently under way in relation to the demise of the girl,’ Inspector Lou Serafim said before the arrest was made public.

‘The triple-0 call was made by a relative who was at the incident scene when they located the 10-year-old girl.

‘He is a relative and he is being very cooperative and is assisting police with the investigation.’

The man who made the emergency call was seen assisting police at the scene while wearing a blue forensic suit, the Courier Mail reported.

No charges have been laid.
