Bar Association President to the House of Representatives Legislative Committee: We do not seek to find fault with Parliament and seek to participate in the dialogue on the law

Abdel Halim Allam, the head of the Bar Association, expressed the Bar Association’s thanks and appreciation to the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee and its subcommittee that prepared the draft law, noting that this law concerns the Egyptian people, praising the effort made in preparing this draft law and the tireless efforts of the House of Representatives to bring this law to light. During the meeting of the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee held today to complete the discussion of the draft Criminal Procedures Law, he extended his greetings and appreciation to the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee for respecting the opinion and the other opinion. The head of the Bar Association stressed the inherent right of the House of Representatives to legislate, praising the committee for opening up horizons for community dialogue on the proposals and proposals related to the draft law and the committee’s openness to listen to all visions related to the draft law. Abdel Halim Allam, the head of the Bar Association, stressed that the union is an essential part of the state institutions and works in agreement with everyone under the new republic, expressing his apology for the statements issued by some fellow lawyers that did not satisfy the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee, stressing that Counselor Dr. Hanfy Gebaly, the head of the council, is a source of pride for all legal professionals, and there is no talk of a constitutional defect, but there were some concerns about the suspicion of unconstitutionality only. The Bar Association President stressed that there was no attempt by the Association to catch any mistakes in the House of Representatives, but the goal was to clarify some matters.

The Bar Association President indicated that a small meeting was held with the Chairman of the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee and Mr. Counselor, Rapporteur of the Subcommittee, prior to the meeting of the Legislative Committee, and the vision and philosophy on the basis of which the new draft law was prepared were explained, and the guarantees and protections that were added were reviewed and understood well, indicating that he would need some time to return to the Association to clarify the picture and re-adjust the proposals submitted by the Association.

The Bar Association President added that he had previously spoken with the Minister of Parliamentary and Legal Affairs about amending the Lawyers Law while congratulating him. Expressing the Association’s aspiration to cooperate with everyone in the interest of the country.
