Prime Minister holds meeting to identify areas most in need

Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly stressed the state’s keenness to support the most needy areas across the republic, especially in light of the current economic challenges, in a way that contributes to alleviating the burdens on citizens in those areas.

This came during the meeting held by Dr. Mostafa Madbouly today, Sunday, at the government headquarters in New Alamein City, regarding identifying the most needy areas in all governorates to target them with a new package of social protection measures, in the presence of Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity, and Basil Rahmy, CEO of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency, and a number of officials from the concerned authorities, while Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, and Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, participated virtually.

The Prime Minister explained that the state has launched several initiatives through its various agencies and designated entities, such as the “" We are all one,” noting that these efforts are primarily aimed at supporting the citizen and emphasizing the state’s continued support for him.

In this regard, he noted the efforts of the National Civil Action Alliance that complement the state’s efforts, as well as the possibility of coordination between the state and civil society in this regard, which contributes to mobilizing the efforts of all parties, expressing his aspiration to hear various proposals on this matter.

Counselor Mohamed El-Homsany, the official spokesman for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, stated that the meeting discussed a number of initiatives that can be implemented; with the aim of supporting families in the most needy areas, referring to what the Minister of Planning explained, during the meeting, of programs included in the investment plan for the current fiscal year that aim to support the most needy areas, whether in the field of education or in the health sector, indicating that the Ministry of Planning is coordinating with the relevant authorities to support these areas within the framework of this plan.

For her part, the Minister of Solidarity pointed to the ministry’s efforts to support the most needy families; To ease their burden, and addressed some proposals in this regard that can be implemented, especially through the support provided to families of the “Takaful and Karama” program, in addition to some other proposals that support the most needy areas.

The official spokesman added that the Minister of Local Development addressed the efforts of the Ministry within the framework of the presidential initiative “Decent Life” to develop rural villages, explaining that during the next stage, new areas that have not been previously supported during the past period can be supported.

The official spokesman pointed to the confirmation of the representative of the Ministry of Defense that the Armed Forces provide the necessary support to citizens in various regions across the republic, and he also stressed the importance of agreeing on the targeted areas in the new initiative.. While the representative of the Ministry of Interior indicated that the Ministry has identified a number of the most needy areas through field follow-up of a number of those areas, and that the Ministry takes into consideration the importance of providing possible forms of support to them; This will contribute to reducing the burdens on citizens in those areas.

In turn, the CEO of the Project Development Agency expressed the agency’s readiness to provide various possible forms of support to the most needy areas through medium, small and micro projects, once those areas are identified.

At the end of the meeting, Madbouly directed the Ministry of Local Development to expedite the inventory and audit of the most needy areas, which will be provided with exceptional support, in coordination with the relevant authorities, as well as to consider coordination with civil society in accurately identifying those areas. He also tasked the ministry with coordinating with the relevant authorities in the state in order to provide support in a number of areas, such as directing medical convoys or supporting some basic services directed to citizens in those areas, noting that the new initiative can be repeated in other areas after the completion of the first group of the most needy areas.
