The Drug Authority launches campaigns on 11,000 pharmacies during August

– Implementing 190 inspection campaigns in coordination with security authorities

The Egyptian Drug Authority and its branches in the governorates coordinated with the various regulatory and security authorities to intensify the efforts of the extensive inspection campaigns, during the month of August, on pharmaceutical institutions throughout the republic; where the inspection included visiting more than 11 thousand pharmaceutical institutions from “public and private pharmacies in hospitals, drug stores, distribution companies and drug factories”, and implementing approximately 190 inspection campaigns in coordination with the security services; and many violations were detected, ranging from seizing smuggled drugs that are not registered with the Egyptian Drug Authority, and the absence of the responsible pharmacist manager or his representative, and practicing the profession without a license and unlicensed places, while the estimated value of the seizures amounted to more than 10 million Egyptian pounds.

The efforts resulted in detecting multiple violations; the most prominent of which was the seizure of 13 unlicensed institutions in the governorates of “Cairo – Dakahlia – Qalyubia – Sharqia – Gharbia – Fayoum – Sohag – Alexandria”, in addition to seizing 13 unlicensed establishments run as pharmacies in the governorates of (Sharqia, Sohag, Giza, Alexandria, Luxor, Fayoum, Red Sea, Minya).

A raid was carried out in Cairo Governorate in coordination with the security services on one of the residential apartments where cosmetic products of unknown origin were stored and packaged in violation of the law in a proactive step before the products were circulated in the markets. 15 cases related to the circulation of medicines through electronic pages in violation of the law were also seized, and coordination was made with the Supreme Council for Media to close the electronic pages that were seized.

The Egyptian Drug Authority calls on all pharmacists and citizens to communicate with it through various means of communication, in the event of violations regarding the circulation of medicines, through the hotline 15301 or the authority’s official website.

This comes within the framework of the Egyptian Drug Authority’s efforts to control the drug market, and maintain the quality, effectiveness and safety of pharmaceutical preparations and medical supplies circulated in pharmacies, as well as monitoring storage and circulation locations And raiding unlicensed places.
