The Project hosts stunned as Amy Remeikis makes snarky Father’s Day comment about ‘crap dads’
Hosts on The Project were left reeling in stunned silence after guest Amy Remeikis made a bizarre on-air comment about ‘crap dads’ on Father’s Day.
The Guardian’s political reporter appeared on the Channel Ten current affairs program on Sunday night to discuss Australia’s housing shortage and cost of living crisis.
At the end of her interview with presenters Hamish Macdonald and Sarah Harris, Ms Remeikis signed off by noting Father’s Day with a snarky comment.
‘Happy Dad’s Day to all the non-crap dads and for all the mums and everyone else who had to stood up for the crap dads [sic],’ she said.
The bizarre off-the-cuff remark left the bemused hosts lost for words with a perplexed Harris appearing to grimace.
‘Okay, in other news,’ Macdonald eventually responded as he quickly moved to the next segment.
The studio audience laughed and the awkward moment has since gone viral on social media.
Dozens of viewers took to X to question the confusing reference after the program shared the segment online, which has since been deleted.
At the end of the interview about Australia’s rental crisis, Amy Remeikis (pictured) wished dads a happy Father’s Day in an unusual way
‘What was that little rant at then about c**p dads? one viewer asked.
‘More time spent with the blow dryer rather than being mean could be a better career move.’
Others slammed the comment and believed that it shouldn’t have been aired.
‘Happy Fathers day to the non crap dads’. Are you serious? What a s**t thing to say,’ another viewer wrote.
‘Just say happy Father’s Day, or don’t.’
But some viewers did see the funny side.
‘I’ve just watched Amy Remeikis discuss capitalism and crap dads on Father’s Day. Cannot ever imagine an equivalent on British TV,’ person wrote.
‘Lol crap dads,’ another person chimed in.

Single parents who solely raise their children alone also leapt to Remeikis’ defence.
‘Just saw you on The Project. As a mum who does both roles. THANK YOU!’ one mum wrote.
Another viewer wrote: ‘I just caught the end of your spot on The Project. Absolutely love your work!’
Ms Remeikis provides political commentary on several television and radio programs and is often seen on ABC’s Insider’s show.
Ms Remeikis explained the government should be worried about leaving renters behind at the next federal election as the housing crisis worsens.
She said Aussies are being left out of the housing market and slammed the failure of housing polices that has made made owning a home increasingly unaffordable.
