Alexandria Governor: President Sisi pays great attention to investing in youth
Alexandria Governor Ahmed Khaled stressed that Alexandria is the bride of the Mediterranean and a beacon of culture and knowledge since the dawn of history, expressing his happiness to be present at the opening ceremony of the International Olympiad in Informatics at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the beacon of science and knowledge.
The Governor of Alexandria said – in his speech on the occasion of the opening of the 36th session of the International Olympiad in Informatics, organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology with the participation of delegations from 96 countries – that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has paid great attention since the first day to investing in youth and that the political leadership has begun to care about achieving a competitive economy based on benefiting from the outputs of scientific research.
He thanked the President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, for hosting this competition, which includes a distinguished crowd of experts and specialists in the field of software in Egypt and the world, adding that the International Olympiad in Informatics keeps pace with the developments that the world is experiencing around us as we live in a new phase that witnesses an expansion in the use of communications and information technology applications, and that investing in communications technology has become a matter In the future.
He stressed that over the past years, Egypt has become a strong competitor in the International Olympiad in Informatics, where it has won many bronze and silver medals in international competitions held in various countries around the world, Poland – Mexico – Bulgaria – Canada – Thailand.
He concluded his speech by stressing the governorate’s full support and readiness to host all international competitions and events that contribute to developing the capabilities of young people and enhancing their skills.
For her part, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Institutional Development Ghada Labib expressed her happiness at the opening of the 36th International Olympiad in Informatics 2024 on Egyptian soil, “The World’s Forum”. At the Center for Cultures, Civilizations and Sciences, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, explaining that the International Olympiad in Informatics is one of the most famous annual international competitions in the world in the field of informatics since the idea was first proposed in 1987.
She pointed out Egypt’s keenness to participate in this competition annually, adding that Egypt is the first Arab and African country to host this international event for the second time since its first hosting in 2008, stressing Egypt’s belief and its political leadership that investing in young people is necessary and inevitable to ensure a better future for our country, our continent and the world as a whole.
She added that Egypt’s interest in this international competition comes within the framework of the state’s efforts and strategy to build a digital Egypt to reach a safe, productive and sustainable interactive digital society, and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s keenness to encourage young people to be creative and innovative and to take an interest in the fields of information technology and to spread it among young generations while providing a diverse and integrated set of educational and training programs to enhance the digital skills of young people and meet the needs of the market Work.
For his part, Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar welcomed the participating delegations, explaining that the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) represents a gathering of the world’s distinguished youth in computer science and information technology, and is the most important and largest event in this field for school students worldwide, as students from 96 countries are participating in the current version, in addition to members of different teams, trainers and volunteers.
He added that the International Olympiad in Informatics aims to motivate students to take an interest in computer science and information technology, and is a meeting place for upcoming geniuses and experts in the field of software and information technology.
