Foreign Minister praises relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Dr. Badr Abdel Aati praised the ongoing and growing cooperation in bilateral relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom, especially in various economic and trade fields, most notably energy, including clean energy, communications and information technology, transportation and the supply of railway cars, in addition to cooperation in the field of developing cities and infrastructure, especially since the United Kingdom is at the top of the list of foreign investors in Egypt.
This came during the Foreign Minister’s reception, today, Monday, of the British Commissioner for Trade with Africa, John Humphrey.
The official spokesman and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, said, “The Foreign Minister reviewed, during the meeting, the measures taken by the Egyptian state to empower the private sector and increase the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy, support the transition to a green economy, and provide investment incentives to localize some national industries.” He added that the Foreign Minister confirmed that these measures contributed to an investment boom in various economic activities, which represents an opportunity to attract more From British investments to Egypt.
He pointed out that the Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his aspiration to enhance cooperation between Egypt and the United Kingdom in various economic and investment fields that are important to both countries and achieve mutual gains, as well as encouraging British companies to further benefit from the opportunities available in the projects being implemented in Egypt, especially infrastructure projects, smart cities and renewable energy projects; This will contribute to increasing the volume of trade exchange between the two countries.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid pointed out that the meeting touched on the issue of enhancing cooperation and mobilizing investments in the African continent, as the Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed Egypt’s aspiration to enhance cooperation with the United Kingdom within the framework of tripartite cooperation in African countries, and to benefit in this regard from the presence and close strategic relations that the Egyptian and British sides have with the countries of the continent, especially in issues of common interest, most notably clean and renewable energy, transportation, infrastructure and health.
For his part, the British official indicated that the United Kingdom aspires to continue enhancing its investments in Egypt, and is keen to work jointly to enhance business, trade and investment between the two countries and build capacities; with the aim of enhancing trade exchange in a way that reflects the depth of Egyptian-British relations.
In the same context, the Foreign Ministry spokesman indicated, at the end of his statements, that the Minister of Foreign Affairs was keen to listen to the ideas and proposals presented by the British Trade Commissioner; To enhance cooperation between Egypt and the United Kingdom in various economic and investment fields, in a manner that serves the interests of the Egyptian and British peoples.
