Minister of Tourism and Antiquities meets British Trade Envoy to Africa

Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, met with “John Humphrey.” The British Trade Envoy to Africa, Ambassador Gareth Bailey, the British Ambassador to Cairo, and the accompanying delegation, where the Minister praised the strong relations between the two countries, praising the existing and growing cooperation, especially in the field of tourism and antiquities.

 

During the meeting, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities reviewed the diversity of the Egyptian tourist destination in its products and tourism styles, noting the Ministry’s interest in the coming period in working to develop each tourism product separately so that the Egyptian tourist destination is the first in the world in terms of diversity of tourism styles and products.

He also pointed out the Egyptian state’s interest in enhancing tourism investments, especially in the hotel sector, and its welcome to local and international investors, expressing his aspiration to enhance cooperation between Egypt and the United Kingdom in various investment fields, especially tourism, which is important to both countries and achieves mutual gains, as well as encouraging British investors to further benefit from the investment opportunities and initiatives available in Egypt, which contributes to increasing the volume of investment in the tourism sector between the two countries.

He touched on The meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation to attract more incoming tourism from the British market to the Egyptian tourist destination, especially high-spending tourists, and cooperation to implement joint promotional campaigns specialized for the agreed segments of targeted tourists, promote the sports tourism product and encourage British sports teams and institutions to set up their sports camps in various tourist destinations in Egypt, and organize professional workshops between British tour operators and their Egyptian counterparts and familiarization trips for media representatives, influencers and British travel and tourism agents to visit the Egyptian tourist destination and learn about its components and various tourism products. In addition to looking forward to increasing the number of flights coming from various British cities to various Egyptian tourist destinations.

The possibility of the British side transferring its experience and providing technical support regarding the use of information and communications technology in various tourism services was also discussed, in a way that enhances sustainable tourism and raises the efficiency of the services provided.

The possibility of preparing memoranda of understanding for cooperation in protecting cultural property and combating illegal trafficking in antiquities was also discussed, in addition to cooperation in capacity building and training in the fields of preservation and restoration of antiquities and archaeological documentation using technology Digital, in addition to cooperation to hold temporary exhibitions of Egyptian antiquities in the United Kingdom.

For his part, the British side stressed the United Kingdom’s aspiration to continue enhancing its investments in Egypt, and keenness to work jointly to enhance business and investment between the two countries and build capacities, reflecting the depth of Egyptian-British relations.

Mr. Sherif Fathy was keen to listen to the ideas and proposals presented by the British Trade Envoy to Africa and the British Ambassador in Cairo in order to enhance cooperation between Egypt and the United Kingdom in various tourism, archaeological and investment fields to serve the interests of the two peoples.

From the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the meeting was attended by Ms. Yamni Al-Bahar, Deputy Minister, Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and Ambassador Khaled Tharwat, Advisor to the Minister for International Relations and General Supervisor of the General Administration of International Relations and Agreements.

From the British Embassy in Cairo, Mr. Charlie Garnett, Commercial Attaché, Ms. Wafaa Saad, Deputy Commercial Attaché, Mr. Peter Aboush, Head of Trade Policy, and Mr. George Younan, Senior Commercial Advisor for Infrastructure attended the meeting.
