Minister of Tourism and Antiquities receives the Iraqi Ambassador
Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, received Dr. Qahtan Taha Khalaf, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Cairo and its Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, within the framework of the meetings held by the Minister with ambassadors of countries in Cairo to exchange views and discuss enhancing mechanisms for joint cooperation in the field of tourism and antiquities.
During the meeting, the strong historical relations between the two brotherly countries were emphasized, as well as the cooperation witnessed in various fields, including tourism and antiquities. The strengthening of cooperation mechanisms to stimulate more incoming tourism from Iraq to the Egyptian tourist destination was also discussed, as well as facilitating obtaining a tourist visa to enter Egypt, in addition to discussing the possibility of increasing the number of flights between the two countries.
In addition to discussing the common challenges facing the two countries in terms of tourism and preserving antiquities, Egypt and Iraq were able to recover thousands of antiquities that were taken out of the country illegally, which requires unifying efforts to combat the illegal trafficking of cultural property. They also discussed the possibility of holding workshops to train workers in the field of archaeological work on the restoration and development of museums and archaeological sites.
The meeting was attended by Ambassador Khaled Tharwat, Advisor to the Minister for International Relations and General Supervisor of the General Administration of International Relations and Agreements at the Ministry, Ms. Susan Eden, Head of Bilateral Relations at the Iraqi Embassy in Cairo, and Counselor Falah Mohammed, First Secretary at the Iraqi Embassy in Cairo. …..
