Minister of Health discusses enhancing cooperation with a delegation from a pharmaceutical company in Denmark
Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population, received Ambassador “Anne Dorte Rigelsen.” The Ambassador of Denmark and a delegation from a Danish pharmaceutical company to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the field of pharmaceutical preparations, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health and Population in the New Administrative Capital. At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister thanked the Ambassador and the company’s delegation for the support provided to pump an appropriate amount of insulin to meet the needs of diabetes patients, stressing the Ministry of Health and Population’s keenness on a permanent partnership with the company, as it is a global company that provides its medical products to millions around the world, such as diabetics, hemophilia patients, and providing growth hormone for cases of dwarfism. Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the meeting discussed ways to cooperate with the company to implement awareness campaigns on ways to prevent diabetes and obesity, and how to avoid complications resulting from them, in addition to expanding the establishment of diabetes treatment centers, and educating patients in hospitals in the governorates of the Republic, through NovoCare centers that specialize in providing treatment, awareness and health education for diabetes patients visiting outpatient clinics in hospitals. The meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the field of scientific research, innovations, clinical research, training doctors on the latest methods of diagnosis and treatment, how to deal with people with chronic diseases, and providing them with the necessary support and health awareness, which contributes to providing the best health services, pointing out that the World Health Organization nominated Egypt to be one of the leading countries that conducted the largest survey in history of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, blood pressure and obesity. The meeting discussed ways to export and support the pharmaceutical industry in Africa, as the Minister confirmed that Africa will rely on local production in the next 10 years, stressing Egypt’s readiness to be the gateway to Africa for manufacturing and exporting medicine, due to the presence of advanced infrastructure and factories in the pharmaceutical industry, and providing a package of investment incentives for local and international companies to invest in the pharmaceutical sector in Egypt.
For her part, the Danish Ambassador praised the strong and fruitful partnership between Egypt and the company, and the extent of the company’s commitment to meeting the needs of the Egyptian pharmaceutical market and Egyptian patients with all pharmaceutical preparations, stressing the company’s aspiration to export to Africa through Egypt.
For his part, Dr. Jayagovandan Thiagarajan, the company’s regional director for Africa, the Middle East and the Commonwealth, confirmed that Egypt is a strategic partner for the company, stressing its commitment to meeting the needs of diabetes and obesity patients in Egypt, and expanding to conclude more partnerships with Egypt in the field of training and education Healthcare providers, especially doctors who deal with diabetes and obesity cases, in line with the goals of human development according to the National Human Development Project, where the company trained nearly 2,000 doctors on how to deal with diabetes and obesity patients, in addition to raising awareness and educating patients.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohamed Hassani, Assistant Minister of Health and Population for Public Health Initiatives, Dr. Ahmed Saafan, Assistant Minister for Hospital Affairs, Dr. Peter Wagih, Head of the Therapeutic Medicine Sector, Dr. Mohamed Dahi, Head of the General Authority for Health Insurance, and Dr. Hind Ashour, Director General of the General Administration of Pharmacy.
