Committee: We are working on the articles that are not included in the law and the articles that should be deleted or amended

Dr. Abdel-Sened Yammama, head of the delegation, met with members of the Special Committee for Constitutional and Legislative Affairs, as part of a series of meetings set by the head of the delegation to discuss the Criminal Procedures Law and set out the Wafd Party’s vision on the law.

The meetings began with the members of the Legislative Committee, then the same committee will meet with the Supreme Authority next Sunday, then the Supreme Authority will meet the Sunday after next, with the members of the Wafd Party’s parliamentary body, followed by a meeting of the head of the Wafd with the members of the party’s parliamentary body in the Senate and House of Representatives, in preparation for presenting the Wafd’s vision to Parliament.

Dr. Abdul-Sened Yammama said that the delegation is moving to develop a comprehensive vision for this important and dangerous law and to send a message to the state that the delegation is interested in this law because it is the basis of the rights and freedoms on which any democratic society is based.

The head of the delegation confirmed that the party and its president will take into account the rights of the Egyptian citizen, and we will not disappoint the hopes of our people, as we have an opportunity and at the same time we have a message about this important law.

He added, “Today we begin our first discussions to formulate an integrated vision through our meeting with the members of the Specialized Committee for Legislative and Constitutional Affairs, which I had the honor of chairing before assuming the presidency of the delegation. I had prepared a book at the time and during my membership in the Constitution Drafting Committee at that time about comparing the constitutions of a number of countries, including the American, Russian, Turkish and other constitutions, and comparing them to the Egyptian constitutions. At the time, we were on the threshold of a legal stage, and today, with the establishment of a new criminal procedures law, we are in a stage that is no less important.”

The head of the delegation listened to the opinions and discussions of the committee members, and the committee issued a statement in which it said:

The Legislative and Constitutional Committee of the Wafd Party met, headed by Dr. Abdel-Sened, head of the Wafd, to review the Wafd’s vision on the draft Criminal Procedures Law, the majority of whose articles the Legislative and Constitutional Committee of the Egyptian Parliament has finished discussing, and out of respect for the role of Parliament in reviewing the law and the work the committee has completed, and in order for the Wafd Party’s vision to be a comprehensive vision, and after discussion and study, we confirm the following:

2_ The delegation welcomes the amendments to the articles regulating pretrial detention and reducing detention periods.

3_ The Committee confirms that the delegation, throughout its long history, appreciates the Egyptian people’s interaction with all measures that would preserve rights and freedoms, and the independence of the judiciary, which represents the greatest guarantee for all rights.

4_ After the committee reviewed all the discussions, the party’s vision is based on three axes, the first of which is: the articles included in the draft law so far.

Second: The materials that must be added.

Third: The materials that must be modified by deletion or addition.

Dr. Abdel-Sened Yammama, head of the Wafd Party, was tasked with presenting all the proposals reached by the Special Committee for Constitutional and Legislative Affairs, in the joint meeting with the members of the Supreme Authority next Sunday.
