Travis Kelce reveals three new Chiefs stars he believes will shine this season
Ahead of the team’s season opener on Thursday night, Travis Kelce has named three new Kansas City Chiefs players that will shine this season.
All three are on offense, which makes sense given Kelce sees more of them playing tight end.
Kelce name-drops rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy, fullback Carson Steele, and veteran wideout Hollywood Brown as the trio he believes will shine.
Steele was signed to the team as an undrafted rookie, while Brown has been in the NFL since being chosen in the first round of the 2019 draft.
Worthy was Kansas City’s first-round draft pick this year after setting an NFL combine record for the fastest 40-yard dash time of 4.21 seconds.
Kelce has revealed three of his new Chiefs teammates who he thinks will shine this season
‘Some guys have the speed and some guys are just football players. He’s intelligent, he’s picking up on the offense very smooth, he can see things and react to things and then on top of that he has absolute speed that is just on a whole other stratosphere,’ Kelce started of Worthy.
‘He’s a fluid runner, he’s very smooth and he’s understanding when Pat (Mahomes) is going to come to him on the route,’ Kelce continued. ‘That’s the biggest thing in this offense and the biggest thing getting used to as a rookie being able to trust what you’re seeing so that you’re on the same page as your quarterback.’
‘He’s doing a great job so far and I’m excited for him, man. He seems to be one of those guys who rises up to the occasion and I’m pumped for him.’
Steele has received a unique nickname from Kelce.
‘I think he’s a little more than a fullback. He’s athletic and can do some things with the ball in his hand. On top of that, he’s a big special teams guy and a “whatever you need me to do coach” kind of guy,’ Kelce said of Steele.
‘So you’re going to be seeing some Carson Steele, or as I like to call him, Dundee – short for Crocodile Dundee – because of the alligator he’s got.’
‘It’s another piece of the puzzle that the defense has got to be ready for. Andy Reid’s offenses have had that typical full back type player – maybe not last year – but Carson can do more than a typical full back which makes it harder for the defense because they’ve got to account for that.’
More is expected of Brown from outside the Chiefs locker room due to him being an NFL veteran.
‘He’s getting better (health). He’s excited to be able to play with Pat in this offense,’ Kelce said of Brown. ‘He’s seeing success, he’s seeing how it’s ran and he sees the accountability that’s put on the wide receivers.’
‘He’s very smart, wanted to learn the nuances that make this offense and he plays fast, man. He’ll be an asset as soon as he gets back to full health man.’
The Chiefs are looking to be the first team to three-peat in the Super Bowl era and have a tough first test in a rematch of last year’s AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens.
