Minister of Solidarity honors outstanding students with disabilities

Within the framework of the President’s initiative for human development “A New Beginning for Building the Human Being”, Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity, attended a ceremony honoring outstanding students with disabilities, where she honored 26 male and female students from the top secondary school students “integration category”. The blind, and the technical secondary diploma for the deaf and hard of hearing with disabilities, presented them with a certificate of appreciation and gifts in kind, as part of the Ministry of Social Solidarity’s keenness to support children with disabilities.

The honoring ceremony was attended by Dr. Abdel Hadi Al-Qasabi, representative of the parliamentary bloc of the Future of the Nation Party and head of the Social Solidarity, Family and Persons with Disabilities Committee, Counselor Thanaa Khalil, Vice President of the National Council for Women, and representatives of civil society institutions.

The Minister of Social Solidarity expressed her happiness to participate in this event for Egypt’s sons and creators with disabilities, top high school students “integration category”, blind, and the technical secondary diploma for the deaf and hard of hearing with disabilities for the past academic year, extending her sincere thanks to the Life Makers Foundation, one of the institutions of the National Alliance for Civil Development Work, for its efforts through the “Best Friend” initiative, and the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development, the permanent partner of the Ministry of Solidarity in all programs and initiatives, and Al-Jalala University for launching an initiative in cooperation with the ministry that includes hosting the top blind students at the university headquarters for two days To introduce them to the nature and requirements of university study and the most important skills required for university study, in addition to organizing workshops in a number of technological fields.

Dr. Maya Morsi was keen to congratulate the Egyptian champions on their honorable achievement in the Paris 2024 Paralympics; The Egyptian champions won 7 medals, including two gold, two silver and three bronze. You raised Egypt’s name high in Paris.

 The Minister of Social Solidarity stressed that when she looks at the faces of the first sons, she finds stories written with challenge and determination, with dreams and patience, with pain and hope. Today’s success stories are not for an individual hero in a group, but rather a shining page of success for you with all this strength, and shining for this country, Egypt, with what it has achieved over a whole decade of a boom in interest in the rights of persons with disabilities, starting with the issuance of the Egyptian Constitution in 2014, membership in parliamentary councils, and the issuance of the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities No. (10) of 2018 and its executive regulations No. (2733) of 2018; in the belief of "Egypt" With the right of all individuals to obtain their full rights without discrimination or marginalization and emphasizing the principles of justice, fairness and equal opportunities, it also designated 2018 as the year of disability, and an annual celebration of people with disabilities and their successes, with a clear change in the mental image of people with disabilities and their empowerment in many social, cultural, artistic and sports fields, all of this would not have come about without this unprecedented support from the political leadership. Dr. Maya Morsi pointed out that the dream knows no boundaries and is not limited to a body or a condition, a force that not only overcomes circumstances, but challenges the prevailing concepts of ability and possibility, and the living embodiment of the meaning of victory, a victory that does not come from the battlefields only, but from the arenas of daily life that you go through, where every step forward becomes a victory in itself, and towards supporting your steps; The Ministry of Social Solidarity believes that integration in all its forms is the solution; integration in education, work, art, culture and sports; The Ministry has focused on equal educational opportunities for people with disabilities, starting with the establishment of 220 nurseries dedicated to people with disabilities across the country, through the integration of people with visual disabilities (blindness – low vision) into 51 schools, providing scholarships for male and female students with visual disabilities at 19 universities with a total of EGP 9,000,000, supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing students at 13 Egyptian public universities by providing sign language interpreters at universities at a cost of EGP 5.4 million, and providing a talking laptop for blind university students. Meanwhile, the Ministry supported the establishment of the first electronic library at Zagazig University to serve 45 students with visual disabilities at the Faculty of Disability Sciences and the Faculty of Arts through an application on mobile phones, and providing the needs of students with disabilities through solidarity units at Egyptian universities, including; Paying tuition fees, forming support teams, providing prosthetic devices, talking laptops, white canes for visually impaired people, headphones, wheelchairs and prosthetic limbs.

 The Minister of Social Solidarity explained that the “Best Friend” initiative to integrate people with disabilities into society, which the ministry is holding in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Alliance for Civil Development Action with the participation of 10,000 volunteers from the Life Makers volunteers in 24 governorates across the republic, witnessed collective movements of volunteer teams to raise awareness of the initiative and its goals in the centers and villages of 24 governorates through door-to-door campaigns, with the aim of explaining the idea and calling for participation from healthy and disabled people, and explaining the forms and types of disabilities in addition to forming friendships with people with disabilities and healthy people alike, with the aim of reaching 10 million citizens; towards eliminating the social isolation of people with disabilities.
