Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown could make his Chiefs debut on Sunday as Andy Reid refuses to rule out unleashing another offensive weapon
With a Week 1 victory under their belts, the Kansas City Chiefs will be hoping to add to their win total – hopefully with a fully healthy roster.
Missing from last week’s game was wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown, who the Chiefs signed in free agency.
On Wednesday, Brown did not participate in practice – but according to head coach Andy Reid, there’s still a chance he could take the field on Sunday.
“As far as the injuries go, ‘Hollywood’ is the only one that’s banged up there, so he’s continuing to rehab and get himself ready, but he won’t be out there today,” Reid said.
When asked if Brown’s lack of participation on Wednesday was an indicator that he’d be out for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Reid said, ‘Not necessarily. I wouldn’t say that.’
Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown could make his debut with the Chiefs this Sunday after an injury
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid refused to rule Brown out as he recovers from a joint dislocation
It’s an improvement from the last time that Reid discussed Brown before the season opener – when he ruled him out nearly a whole week before the Chiefs hosted Baltimore.
Brown is suffering from a dislocation in his sternoclavicular joint that he suffered on the first offensive play of the Chiefs’ preseason.
It’s an injury that’s drawing comparisons to one Tyreek Hill suffered when he was with the Chiefs back in September of 2019. Hill eventually returned on October 13.
If Brown were to return for Sunday’s matchup against the Bengals, it’d follow a similar timeline to Hill’s comeback from that injury.
When asked about Brown’s recovery in the context of Hill’s return from all those years ago, Reid chose to expand on how the timelines were different from each other.
‘They all set a little different,” Reid said. “It’s something that has to move to get back into place. They all set just a little different and heal there, from what I understand – I’m not a physician by any means. They’re all just a bit different.
‘I mean, you’re talking just centimeters of it being off can be a problem. You want to make sure those things are healed in and that they’re actually in the right spot. We’re having him see different people that are experts at that.
‘I don’t think there’s a ton of data on it, especially in our field here in football. That’s kind of what’s going on, but as far as working hard, he feels good, he feels like he’s in a pretty good spot. It’s not him.
The Chiefs fared well in Brown’s absence, beating the Ravens 27-20 in the season opener
‘He would’ve been out there the last couple of weeks if he had a choice. Wouldn’t have been the best decision he made, but you’ve got to trust the doctors here.’
The Chiefs fared perfectly fine in Brown’s absence – with Mahomes tossing for 291 yards and a touchdown on Thursday.
Rashee Rice led all pass catchers with seven receptions for 103 yards while Xavier Worthy caught the sole touchdown pass of the night for the Chiefs.
