Tim Robinson Comedy ‘Chair Company’ Picked Up to Series at HBO

HBO has formally ordered “The Chair Company,” the comedy series starring and co-created by Tim Robinson.

The project was originally announced with a pilot order back in April. Robinson co-created the series with Zach Kanin, with both also serving as executive producers.

The official logline states, “After an embarrassing incident at work, a man (Robinson) finds himself investigating a far-reaching conspiracy.”

Robinson stars as William Ronald Trosper. The cast also includes Lake Bell as Barb Trosper, Sophia Lillis as Natalie Trosper, Will Price as Seth Trosper, and Joseph Tudisco as Mike Santini. Lou Diamond Phillips guest starred in the pilot as Jeff Levjman.

Along with Robinsin and Kanin, Adam McKay and Todd Schulman executive produce “The Chair Company” via HyperObject Industries. Igor Srubshchik is also an executive producer. Andrew DeYoung executive produced and directed the pilot.

“With an imprint only Tim and Zach can have on a character, William Ronald Trosper follows in the strong tradition of HBO comedy leads,” said Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO & Max Comedy Programming. “I couldn’t be happier to announce the pickup of this wildly enjoyable show.”

This marks the second HBO comedy picked up from pilot to series this week. HBO also recently announced that an untitled comedy from “Bottoms” co-writer and star Rachel Sennott has been greenlit.

“We are so excited and thankful to get to make this show with HBO, HyperObject, and all of the amazing cast and crew that have helped to create it,” Robinson and Kanin added.

Kanin and Robinson are frequent collaborators, beginning with their time together on the writing staff of “Saturday Night Live.” They then went on to co-create the popular Comedy Central series “Detroiters” with Sam Richardson and Joe Kelly (with Robinson and Richardson starring) and the Netflix sketch comedy series “I Think You Should Leave” (with Robinson also starring). The latter show won the Emmy Award for best short form series in 2023, while Robinson has won the Emmy for best actor in a short form series twice to date.

Robinson is repped by by CAA, Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment and attorney Melissa Fox. Kanin is repped by WME and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
