Al-Azhar Mosque preacher: Following the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is the key to progress and prosperity

Today, Friday’s sermon was delivered at Al-Azhar Mosque by Dr. Rabie Al-Ghafir, a professor at Al-Azhar University, and the topic was “The Prophet’s Birthday: Secrets and Manifestations.”

Dr. Rabie Al-Ghafir said, “In these blessed days, the lights of a great and dear memory shine upon us in hearts and souls, the memory of the birth of pride, dignity and honor for this nation, in the person of its Prophet and Master Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, whom his Lord chose over all creation. The day of his birth, may God bless him and grant him peace, is a sign of the arrival of the light that dispelled the darkness of falsehood and injustice. This blessed newborn, may God bless him and grant him peace, came to be a mercy to the worlds and a savior of humanity. To lead it to the path of truth and justice, and purify it from injustice and corruption.

The preacher of Al-Azhar Mosque explained that the Islamic nation’s celebration of the birth of its Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is a joy in the generosity and favor of God upon him because He bestowed upon them mercy in the person of their noble Messenger, who guided them to God and introduced them to his straight path, and in his guidance to them happiness in both worlds, adding that some people’s superficial view of celebrating the birth of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is what leads them to the idea of saying that celebrating the birth of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is an innovation. If these people looked at the deep meanings behind the celebration, they would be at the forefront of those celebrating and rejoicing in the birth of their Prophet. It is our duty to guide these people to the true understanding of the meaning behind the celebration and not leave them exposed to stray ideas that have no connection to our approach.

Al-Ghafir explained that these stray ideas confuse people about their religion. Whoever says that everything the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not do is an innovation and misguidance leads to Fire, so let him tell us how the Qur’an was compiled during the era of Abu Bakr and Uthman, which is something that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) did not do? Was that an innovation?! There is a state of confusion that appears in our societies with the advent of this fragrant anniversary, adding that the innovation that leads its doer to Hell is everything that was introduced after the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) that has no basis in religion or conflicts with one of the fundamentals of religion. So does celebrating his birth and rejoicing over it have no basis in religion?! This is wrong. Who said that he (PBUH) did not celebrate his birth?! So why did he (PBUH) fast on Mondays and Thursdays?! When he was asked about fasting on Mondays, he said: “That is the day I was born,” which is evidence that he celebrated his birth every week and not every year.

At the end of the sermon, Dr. Rabi’ Al-Ghafir stressed the importance of the Islamic nation celebrating the anniversary of the birth of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and making his fragrant biography a beacon that illuminates the path of hope and optimism in its life. Following the example of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in all aspects of life is an urgent need in this time when challenges abound for this nation, as following his Sunnah, peace and blessings be upon him, is not just a religious slogan, but rather a foundation for progress and prosperity. The Islamic nation witnessed the importance of this adherence at the height of its progress, as it reached its current status and advancement thanks to its adherence to the approach of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and his fragrant Sunnah, as it represents a guarantee of success and balance in various aspects of life, whether religious, social or economic.
