The Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny, stressed that the Egyptian state, represented by the Ministry of Housing, is looking forward to enhancing joint cooperation with Britain, especially in the file of industries related to the drinking water and sanitation facilities sector, smart and sustainable city management systems, and other industries related to the construction sector, through the transfer and localization of modern technologies in these fields.
This came during the meeting of the Minister of Housing today with the British Ambassador to Cairo, Gareth Bailey, at his office at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, to congratulate him on assuming the housing portfolio, and to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two countries, in the presence of Dr. Abdel Khaleq Ibrahim, Assistant Minister for Technical Affairs, and Ambassador Hassan Al-Leithy, Advisor to the Ministry for International Cooperation.
The Minister presented the investment opportunities available to British investors in various fields, especially in the Northwest Coast region, given its enormous potential, making it a global tourist destination, and meeting the increasing demand for hotel units and rooms to accommodate large numbers of tourists in the coming years, as the North Coast witnessed this year an influx of Tourists from more than 100 different nationalities.
Al-Sherbiny pointed out the efforts of the Egyptian state in developing the lands of the northwest coast, most notably the New Alamein City, which is the capital of the North Coast, and includes many diverse investment opportunities. It is a sustainable city that operates throughout the year, and is not just a summer city. Without the New Alamein City, the New Ras El Hekma City would not have existed, in addition to developing the Dabaa area, and maximizing the benefit from the lands located south of the international coastal road along the northern coast. In fact, preparations are underway to implement the first lake south of the Marina El Alamein Tourist Center.
Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny also discussed with Ambassador Gareth Bailey ways to enhance cooperation with the British side through strong and effective participation in the World Urban Forum, which Egypt will host from November 4-8, in cooperation with the United Nations Human Settlements Program “Habitat”. Which is a great opportunity to showcase the efforts of the Egyptian state in the field of comprehensive development, especially urban development, as well as an opportunity to enhance joint cooperation in various available investment opportunities.
For his part, Ambassador Gareth Bailey expressed his country’s desire to activate the memorandum of cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of infrastructure and sustainable smart cities, in addition to enhancing the participation of British investors and companies in various fields and investment opportunities in various fields in Egypt.
He also welcomed the strong and effective participation in the World Urban Forum, where Britain will participate at the level of senior officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Housing, as well as companies and investors, calling for exploiting the forum’s activities to enhance areas of cooperation and activate the memorandum of joint cooperation between the two countries.
