The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics stated that Egypt is one of the leading African countries in the field of foreign direct investment in green hydrogen projects during the period (2021 – 2023) with a value of $ 215.5 billion.
The agency explained – in a statement today, Monday, on the occasion of the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer for the year 2024, which falls on September 16 of each year – that Egypt ranked first in the Arab world in terms of the number of hydrogen projects announced or planned to be implemented in terms of its production, transportation and use.
He added that these projects amounted to 33 projects until March 2024, the majority of which are in the production of green hydrogen and green ammonia with 28 projects out of a total of 103 projects at the level of Arab countries.
The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics continued that the amount of electrical energy generated in Egypt from renewable energy sources (energy Wind/solar energy) increased from 10.5 thousand gigawatts/hour in (2021-2022) to 10.6 thousand gigawatts/hour in (2022-2023), an increase of 1%.
He noted that Egypt achieved the 22nd place out of 67 countries according to the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) for 2024, explaining that it advanced from Algeria, which achieved the 54th place, Turkey, which achieved the 56th place, and the United Arab Emirates, which achieved the 65th place.
The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics indicated that Egypt obtained the second place after Morocco in the Middle East and North Africa, attributing this to the fact that Egypt has taken measures to invest in large-scale renewable energy projects such as: encouraging the installation of solar and wind energy.
It is indicated The International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer commemorates the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer in 1987, an international treaty that aims to protect the ozone layer by phasing out the production of some substances responsible for ozone depletion.
This year’s celebration, 2024, comes under the slogan “Montreal Protocol: Advancing Climate Action.”
