Minister of Supply receives Italian Ambassador to discuss areas and means of joint cooperation

Today, Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, received Michele Quaroni, Ambassador of Italy to Cairo, at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two countries and exchange expertise.

 

This was in the presence of Major General Walid Abu El-Magd, Deputy Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Dr. Ashraf Sadek, CEO of the Holding Company for Silos, Ahmed Kamal, Assistant Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry, and Dr. Heba El-Sayed, Assistant Minister and Acting Head of the Internal Trade Development Authority. The meeting was attended from the Italian side by Giuseppe Papalia, Head of the Economic Office, Etmartino Meli, Head of the Italian Agency for Development Office in Cairo, and Dr. Reda Kamal, Translator.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Sherif Farouk stressed, The Minister of Supply and Internal Trade stressed the strength and solidity of relations between Egypt and Italy, explaining that there are great investment opportunities in supply files and projects in various fields, including silos and storage, logistics areas and food industries, expecting more cooperation with the Italian side.

 

In a related context, the Minister of Supply praised the level of cooperation reached by Egyptian-Italian relations in various fields in light of the strong relations between the two countries, indicating his keenness to exchange expertise with the Italian side and help complete the increase in the storage capacities and capacities of silos by using Italian expertise, which contributes to localizing the silo industry in Egypt.

 

During the meeting, the Minister of Supply was briefed on the executive position of the joint projects being implemented, as well as the joint projects that have already been implemented, where the construction of (6) field silos with a capacity of 30 thousand tons was completed with funding from the Italian debt swap program in the amount of 369 million pounds. In addition to contributing to financing the project of governance of wheat trading and tracking from ports to silos to mills with an amount of 47 million pounds, the Minister of Supply was also briefed on the study of new offers submitted by Italian companies to establish new silos.

 

Means of cooperation were also discussed in spreading the concept of one-day markets for vegetables, fruits and fresh products at the governorate level in cooperation with the Holding Company for Food Industries with the aim of providing these goods with high quality and increasing availability in all regions and through a modern system that provides display spaces and is managed with high efficiency.

 

For his part, the Italian Ambassador and the accompanying delegation greeted the Minister of Supply and praised the efforts made by the Egyptian state in the field of comprehensive development, pointing to the importance of sharing experiences between the two countries, and Italy’s interest in investing in projects that contribute to achieving sustainable development goals and food security projects, explaining the history and depth of cooperation with the Egyptian government and participation in various fields, pointing to the upcoming holding of a symposium on the Mediterranean diet in the presence of the Minister of Supply, and he also stressed on Interest in expanding partnership and continuous coordination regarding opening multiple areas of cooperation.
