Viral Hippo Moo Deng Is Getting Her Own 24-Hour Livestream

Moo Deng — the sweet, squishy baby hippo named after a meatball at Thailand’s Khao Kheow Open Zoo — is officially getting her own 24-hour live stream thanks to her viral stardom.

According to the Associated Press, the zoo has now set up cameras in the hippo enclosure and a live stream of baby Moo Deng is expected to be able to stream from next week. While it’s great news for fans of the baby hippo, it’s absolutely terrible news for my productivity levels.

Due to her stardom, zoo director Narongwit Chodchoi has told media that they have started the trademarking process for “Moo Deng the hippo”, telling the Associated Press that any cashola coming in will go towards helping the animals in the zoo live their best lives.

“After we do this, we will have more income to support activities that will make the animals’ lives better,” he said.

“The benefits we get will return to the zoo to improve the life of all animals here.”

The livestream is not only brilliant news for international fans of the teeny-tiny superstar but also for the little diva herself who has been inundated with thousands of visitors. While the attention is good for the zoo, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing for the new celebrity with some visitors splashing Moo Deng with water or throwing things at her to try and elicit some IRL viral antics.

NOT very demure, NOT very mindful behaviour!!!!!!!

Thankfully, Chodchoi made it very clear that any harassment towards little Moo Deng would not be tolerated.

“These behaviours are not only cruel but also dangerous,” Chodchoi said.

“We must protect these animals and ensure that they have a safe and comfortable environment.”

Moo Deng gained viral popularity after her zookeeper Atthapon Nundee began posting adorable, slightly chaotic blurry images and hilarious videos of the two-month-old cutie pie and her siblings.

Although Moo Deng was one of three born to parents Jona and Tony, from one glimpse at her shiny, sassy, exterior, it’s clear why she became an instant star out of her siblings Moo Tun and Moo Wan — whose names translate to stewed pork and sweet pork. Brilliant.

Although Moo Deng is a sweet baby angel with rosy cheeks who could do no wrong, the livestream will be a wonderful opportunity to watch as she grows into a large, adorable yet deadly creature. After all, hippos are the deadliest large land mammal on the planet.

Ah, the dualism. The juxtaposition. It’s almost poetic.

Not to be dramatic but I’d die for her. (Image: Facebook/Khao Kheow Open Zoo)

Anyway, I’ve just spent 15 minutes laughing at Moo Deng memes so in celebration of our favourite chaotic hippo, I’d like to end this article with a compilation of my favourites I found on X, formerly Twitter.

Thank you for joining me on that journey. Long live Moo Deng!!!!!!!!!
