Minister of Supply discusses aspects of cooperation with the head of the Intellectual Property Authority
Today, Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, met with Dr. Hesham Azmy, Head of the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority, at the ministry’s headquarters in the Administrative Capital, to discuss intellectual property in trademarks.
The meeting was attended by Ahmed Kamal, Assistant Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry, and Dr. Heba El-Sayed, Assistant Minister and Acting Head of the Internal Trade Development Authority.
The meeting discussed mechanisms for cooperation between the ministry and the Authority in the field of intellectual property protection, especially with regard to trademarks.
Dr. Hesham Azmy reviewed the work of the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority as a public authority specialized in organizing, sponsoring and protecting intellectual property rights in the country, which was established under Law 163 of 2023.
The meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the ministry and the Authority, whether during the transitional phase during which intellectual property offices will move to the Authority or After that.
The meeting also touched on the importance of protecting trademarks, its impact on goods, and the importance of concerted efforts to combat counterfeit goods and commercial fraud, which helps develop domestic trade and support the Egyptian economy. It is worth noting that cooperation is currently ongoing between the two sides through the Ministry’s Internal Trade Development Authority.
The Minister and the Head of the Authority also agreed to increase areas of joint cooperation between the Ministry and the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority by signing an official cooperation protocol between them, activating what is stated in the National Intellectual Property Strategy.
For his part, Dr. Hesham Azmy, Head of the Authority, expressed his aspiration to enhance cooperation between the Ministry and the Authority, noting the importance of cooperation to protect trademarks, as well as working to raise Egypt’s ranking in the Global Innovation Index.
