Jamie Redknapp claims Old Trafford is ‘a graveyard for great players’ as he suggests Man United are ‘going backwards’ and have hit ‘rock bottom’ after Tottenham defeat

Jamie Redknapp has suggested that Manchester United’s Old Trafford is ‘a graveyard for great players’ after the Red Devils’ 3-0 defeat by Tottenham.

Spurs completely bossed the game on Sunday afternoon in Manchester and should have been more than 1-0 in front when United captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off for a foul on James Maddison in the 42nd minute.

Brennan Johnson had fired Spurs ahead in the third minute following a stunning assist by Micky van de Ven.

Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke then added goals against United’s 10 men in the second half but Spurs also missed multiple big chances to score more.

Sunday’s result left United with just seven points from their first six games in the Premier League this season, and Redknapp didn’t hold back with his criticism.

‘I’ve watched a lot of performances when managers suddenly lose their jobs and that’s the sort of performance that gets the manager the sack,’ Redknapp said on SkySports.

‘When your club are actively looking for another manager, you’re in a massively untenable position because the players know that you’re not the man. You cannot keep the manager after looking for other managers.

‘They’re playing like they’re lost. The players that they’ve brought in don’t look right. This club has a DNA of attacking. I see too many players not putting that extra effort in. This club is not built like that.

‘I don’t see how he can keep his job with these performances. I don’t know how he can turn it around. I know he won two trophies last year but I don’t know how he can take them forward, but I don’t know who is.

‘They’ve scored five goals in six games, Man United. This is a graveyard for great players. Anyone that comes here just goes downhill. Everyone is so devoid of confidence and belief.

In his analysis of the game, Redknapp remained unable to hold back.

He added:  ‘It gets to a point where you feel almost sorry for the manager, he looks out of his depth.

‘It was so easy for Tottenham. It feels to me now, £616 million spent, United are going backwards. They are rock bottom right now.

‘It’s embarrassing. A club of this stature shouldn’t be producing performances like that. They don’t want it enough.’
