October 7 attack: On first anniversary of Israel-Gaza war, IDF displays seized vehicles, weapons used by Hamas on October 7

On the first anniversary of the October 7 attack by Palestinian group Hamas, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) Organised an exhibition, showcasing items seized from Hamas. The exhibition showcased items seized from Hamas, who had invaded southern Israel a year ago. The October 7 attack is the deadliest in the Israel’s history, which shocked the nation and sparked the war in Gaza.

According to an IDF statement, the display featured vehicles, equipment, uniforms, and intelligence materials used by the attackers. Items included pickup trucks, motorcycles, tractors, and more.

The IDF said it has confiscated around 70,000 pieces of enemy equipment since the Israel-Gaza war began. This includes approximately 1,250 anti-tank missiles, RPGs, and 4,500 explosive devices. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, IDF said, “Marking one year since the deadly October 7 Massacre, the IDF has established an exhibition displaying the items seized from Hamas terrorists.”

October 7 attack by Hamas

The October 7 attacks led to the infiltration of Israeli borders by Hamas. This resulted in over 1,200 deaths and more than 250 hostages taken, with about 100 hostages still in captivity. Israel responded with a significant counteroffensive in Gaza to dismantle Hamas’ military infrastructure.However, the rising civilian death toll in Gaza, especially among women and children, has raised global humanitarian concerns. The Gaza health ministry reported over 35,000 Palestinian deaths since the conflict began. The conflict has extended regionally, with attacks from Yemen’s Houthi rebels and ongoing strikes by Israel against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Israel launched a massive counteroffensive in Gaza, targeting Hamas units. Israel has also continued striking Hezbollah in Lebanon to counter the ‘threats’. As the conflict heads towards escalation, all major countries have called for a ceasefire and hostage deal, while also stressing for a two-state solution as a means to achieve durable and sustainable peace in the region.

Israel marks October 7 anniversary

Israel on Monday marked the first anniversary of the October 7 attack by Hamas. A series of memorials and rallies have been planned across the country to commemorate the attack, while the military said it was striking Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.

President Isaac Herzog began the day with a moment of silence at 06:29 am — the moment the attack began — at kibbutz Reim, the site of the Nova music festival attacked by militants, where at least 370 people were killed.

Families of those killed attended the memorial, many of them crying, as Herzog met the crowd, an AFP correspondent reported.
