Inter Milan ‘still backing Simone Inzaghi’ following a difficult week for the manager after he was quizzed by police and criticised by Italy manager Luciano Spalletti
Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi reportedly still has the backing of the club’s board despite enduring a difficult week away from the pitch.
After winning Serie A last season, Inzaghi’s Inter have made a solid start to the current campaign and sit second in the table with 14 points from their first seven league fixtures.
But Inzaghi was quizzed by police this week in relation to a conversation he had with Marco Ferdico, a member of Inter’s Curva Nord ultras, who was arrested last month and is now in custody amid accusations of mafia links.
Inzaghi has not been charged or arrested. He was being interviewed by police as a witness after it was alleged that Ferdico urged him to try to convince club directors to make more tickets for the 2023 Champions League final available to the Curva Nord.
Indeed, Inzaghi’s admitted to prosecutors that he had expressed to club officials the need for more tickets following his call with Ferdico.

After Inzaghi interview with the police hit the headlines this week, the Inter boss found himself in the firing line of Italy manager Luciano Spalletti, who shot a subtle dig in his direction.
Speaking ahead of Italy’s 2-2 draw with Belgium in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday, Spalletti – who has previously managed Roma, Napoli and Inter – said: ‘It never happened that someone called me for these matters; it’s a piece of news that surprised me because you don’t know how was the previous relationship.
‘If someone calls you, you don’t know him, you never had anything to do with him, I think it’s difficult to exchange words.
‘I answer to everyone, even to the numbers I don’t know, but I can also hang up then.’
Inzaghi was said to be ‘shocked and disappointed’ by Spalletti’s words.

However, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter chiefs still have full faith in Inzaghi.
Former striker Inzaghi – best known during his playing days for his time at Lazio – is under contract with Inter until June 2026.
