People left shocked after woman reveals how to actually pronounce Shein

It’s not unusual to get the odd surprise when opening a Shein order, but customers are shocked to find they may be mispronouncing the name of the Chinese brand itself.

The brand is commonly pronounced ‘sheen’ by loyal customers, but a TikTok user claims the ‘I’ should be pronounced, making it: ‘She-in’.

‘Stop saying Sheen, it’s pronounced She-In, short for SheInside,’ TikTok user @kinlymac, exclaimed in a video.

She then pulled up the ‘proof’ – showing a Google result detailing the origins of the online megastore.

‘Look, see the capital I,’ she said, pointing at a webpage that confirmed that the brand was called SheInside until 2015.

Shocked users couldn’t believe the alternative pronunciation, flooding her video with comments over their preferred way to say the label. Some people admitted they are still not convinced of the correct way to say it.

‘According to the English language.. two vowels beside each other you pronounce the long sound of the vowel that comes come first.. so it’s SHEEN,’ one user declared.

‘I’ve always said SheIn but the more I say it the closer I get to saying Sheeen,’ another chimed in.

‘I think it depends where you’re from, how you pronounce it. We can say whatever we want,’ another declared.

‘I used to shop there when it was Sheinside so sheen has always bothered me lol,’ added another.

Many users noted that on the fast-fashion website, the name is written in capital letters, so it’s impossible to know if the I is capitalized.

Shein is known for its ultra-cheap fashion and products, selling dresses for under $10.

In 2023, the Chinese fast-fashion juggernaut reached $2 billion, and gross merchandise value came in at $45 billion, more than doubling their profits from 2022, the Financial Times reported.

Last month, a woman claimed she found live worms in a package she received from the brand.

The shopper, Emma Coad, posted a video of her stomach-churning discovery to TikTok, also reaching out to Shein after the discovery.

However, she claimed the company took no action.

‘They unfortunately told me in emails it’s not their fault and they aren’t liable,’ she told the US Sun at the time.

The TikTok user also said that Shein would not give her a refund for the order.

The company said in a statement to DailyMail.com that it was ‘in touch with the customer’ and has since offered Coad a full refund.

‘When we received the customer’s inquiry, we launched an immediate investigation,’ a Shein spokesperson said.

‘This indicated that when the package completed our quality control process and left our facility, it contained only the SHEIN items ordered.’
