Vincent Aboubakar of Cameroon scores a World Cup goal of the tournament contender against Serbia

Aboubakars SCOOP! The Cameroon substitute scored a daring World Cup goal from the tournament contender using VAR review after the flag was raised… but would he have tried if he’d known he was onside?
Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubakar scored one of the most eye-catching goals of the World Cup – but only with the help of VAR.
Unfortunately, Aboubakar couldn’t properly celebrate his glorious lob from Serbian goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic because the assistant referee immediately ruled offside.
But video assistant referee Mohamed Al Hammadi made sure one of the tournament’s best-taken goals wouldn’t go to waste by watching the replays and discovering that Aboubakar had timed his run to perfection.
Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubakar subtly taps the ball over Serbian goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic to put his side 2-3 down – but VAR needed him

Aboubakar couldn’t quite celebrate what was to be a World Cup contender’s goal
When the decision was passed to referee Mohammed Abdulla, the Cameroonian striker was able to cheer for a moment, but his main focus was on reaching Cameroon’s level in a ding-dong encounter.
It also raised the question of whether Aboubakar attempted the daring scooped finish only because he believed he was offside.
His goal put them 3-2 behind, but they equalized moments later thanks to Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. The match ended 3-3.
Cameroon’s captain Aboubakar, who plays for Saudi Arabian team Al-Nassr, bent his run to perfection to ensure he was sidelined after Jean-Charles Castelletto passed him through.

The ball passed the running back keeper and bounced over the goal line into the net
Aboubakar taps into the penalty area to avoid Nemanja Maksimovic’s desperate slide, then subtly lifts the ball over keeper Milinkovic-Savic with enough power to find the net.
The referee, who was right behind the scorer, immediately looks at the assistant and then raises his arm for offside, but the VAR suggested otherwise.

It was a muted celebration for Aboubakar that did not match the excellent goal he had just scored
It was just a great moment in an exciting Group G meeting on Monday.
Castelletto put Cameroon ahead, but Serbia raced to a 3-1 lead thanks to goals from Strahinja Pavlovic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Aboubakar sparked Cameroon’s unlikely recovery in the second half with Choupo-Moting’s equalizer.
