According to reports, Real Madrid are eyeing Bruno Fernandes ahead of a potential move to the Manchester United midfielder.

Since moving to Old Trafford in 2020, Fernandes has been a standout for the Red Devils, scoring 53 goals in 146 appearances in all competitions.

He signed a lucrative new contract with the club in April, extending his contract until June 2026, but this has not stopped Madrid from following suit.

As reported by the Portuguese outlet FileMadrid have been following Fernandes ‘for a long time’ and could try to sign him in the future.

It is clear that the Spanish giants are keeping a particularly close eye on Fernandes in Qatar, where he currently represents Portugal at the World Cup.

The creative midfielder shone in the group stage, providing two assists in his side’s opening match against Ghana and then scoring twice in Portugal’s 2-0 win against Uruguay.

He was rested for the last group match against South Korea, but seems to be back in the starting line-up immediately when Fernando Santos’ men play against Switzerland in the round of 16.

Madrid and United have done a lot of business over the years, with David Beckham, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Old Trafford to move to the Bernabeu, while Raphael Varane and Casemiro went the other way.

Convincing United to sell Fernandes could prove difficult, however, given his prominent role under Erik Ten Hag.

After a disappointing 2021-22 season, the 28-year-old is back in form this season and has been given the captain’s armband for most of United’s games, with Harry Maguire regularly left out of the starting line-up.

With almost four years left in his contract, it seems United see him as a big part of their future, suggesting a sizeable bid would be needed to consider letting him go.
