Holland’s Memphis Depay mocks Charles Barkley after Hall of Famer said Dutch people are ‘in trouble’

‘Lotta bark, no bite’: Dutch goalscorer Memphis Depay mocks Charles Barkley after bullish Hall of Famer said the Dutch are ‘in trouble’ before Gregg Berhalter’s men lose World Cup final 16

Dutch striker Memphis Depay took to Twitter to mock Charles Barkley on Saturday evening after his team’s 3-1 victory over the US.

Barkley was bullish on the prospects of an upset in the US earlier this week, saying that on Gregg Berhalter’s side ‘open a can of whoop a**’ to their opponent and said the Dutch were ‘in trouble’.

However, the Hall of Famer’s prediction did not come true as the US outclassed the Netherlands when they conceded nearly identical goals from Depay and Daley Blind in the first half.

And Depay wasted little time joking about Barkley, as he posted a photo of the NBA analyst angry at the score of the game above him.

“Lotta bark, no bite,” he captioned the image, which had nearly 60,000 likes when published.

The Oranges had apparently used Barkley’s words as fuel earlier this week, when they recorded the basketball legend’s words for a video on social media to stir up the fanbase.

‘In Louis we trust. We trust in this team,” the official Holland account wrote alongside the video.

In the video, they also edited a US one dollar bill to put on their own manager’s face instead, with Van Gaal replacing George Washington.

The Netherlands will meet Argentina in the quarterfinals after beating Australia 2-1 later in the day.
