Just six months after becoming Brisbane Roar’s big signing, Charlie Austin has decided to head back to the UK.

Austin, 33, joined the A-League club on a ‘multi-year’ contract after leaving Queen’s Park Rangers after the 2021-2022 season, with the former Premier League striker tasked with keeping the fighters on shoot the ladder.

The Englishman has made headlines in his time Down Under, bemoaning the quality of Australian TV before angering locals by claiming that Hobnobs are better than TimTams.

And now Austin is heading back to the UK for “family reasons” and takes to Twitter on Wednesday to confirm the news.

“Thank you @brisbaneroar for all your support over the past 6 months,” he wrote.

“Management, lads and fans have been fantastic and have continued to support me even through my deliberations to go home. I’ve loved the A-League and hope it continues to grow. Family first, football next.’

Austin scored two goals in six A-League appearances for the Roar.
