Armenia accuses Azerbaijan of deteriorating situation in Karabakh

Armenian Foreign Minister accuses Baku of worsening the situation due to the blocking of the Lachin corridor
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a telephone conversation with US Deputy Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried accused Azerbaijan is in the deterioration of the situation in Karabakh due to the blocking of the road connecting the region with Armenia.
“Mirzoyan presented to his interlocutor the humanitarian situation worsening day by day, which has developed as a result of the blocking of the Lachin corridor since December 12, 2022, the only road connecting Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia and the outside world,” the message on the website of the Armenian diplomatic department said.
The Minister stressed that by its actions Baku grossly violates the tripartite statement of the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan dated November 9, 2020. At the same time, he called the environmental justifications and accusations of the Azerbaijani side false.
“Azerbaijan is obliged, without any preconditions, to restore the regime of the Lachin corridor, enshrined in a tripartite statement of November 9,” the report says.
Earlier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev commented on the possibility of a military conflict with Armenia, saying that Baku would not enter into a new war with Yerevan.
On January 10, the Armenian authorities announced their readiness to resolve the conflict in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan specified that Yerevan is ready to sign a document based on Russian proposals.
