Julian Sands’ family send ‘heartfelt thanks’ as ‘heroic’ efforts to find Brit enter day 11
Julian Sands’ family sent their “heartfelt thanks” after “heroic” efforts to locate the 65-year-old who entered on Day 11. The statement was shared by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office. Sands, who is an avid mountain climber, disappeared from Southern California more than a week ago.
He was first reported missing at Baldy Bowl on January 13.
The statement read: “Our heartfelt thanks to the compassionate members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department who are coordinating the search for our beloved Julian, including the heroic search teams listed below who brave harsh conditions on the ground and in the air to bring Julien home.
“We are deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support.”
The statement also listed numerous organizations that were involved in Sands’ search.

The Sheriff’s Department added: ‘As we enter Day 11 of Julian Sands’ search for Mount Baldy, we are reminded of the determination and selflessness of everyone who assisted in this search.
“We will continue to use the resources we have.”
Pings from Mr Sands’ phone previously appeared to show the 65-year-old moving further into the mountainous area.
However, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Department said conditions remained unsafe for the ground crew.
“Due to the strong winds, the snow has turned to ice, which makes hiking extremely dangerous.
“The sheriff’s search and rescue efforts are often hampered by inclement weather as well as dangerous avalanche conditions.
“Recent storms that have brought snow and ice conditions are not favorable for hikers, even those who feel they have a high level of experience.”
