Morgan Gibbs-White is on England’s radar after Gareth Southgate’s No 2 Steve Holland made a check on the Nottingham Forest star at the club’s training ground.

The England manager and Holland were at the City Ground for Forest’s recent Carabao Cup semi-final tie against Manchester United, where Gibbs-White caught the eye even though his team were beaten 3-0.

Soon after that game, Sportsmail understands Holland attended the Nigel Doughty Academy, just outside Nottingham, to watch Steve Cooper’s men put through their paces.

Although Gibbs-White did not train that day, he is thought to had a conversation with Holland.

Gibbs-White faces fierce competition to force his way into the senior squad, with Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, James Maddison and Bukayo Saka among those competing for places as creative players.

Yet he has been Forest’s outstanding performer this term following his £25million move from Wolves last summer.

He has delivered two goals and four assists in the league and quickly become the attacking hub of Steve Cooper’s side.

Cooper and Southgate developed a good relationship when they worked together at the FA, and Southgate knows how much the Forest boss admires Gibbs-White.

The 23-year-old has represented England from Under-16 to Under-21 level and was part of Cooper’s squad that won the Under-17 World Cup in 2017.

Speaking exclusively to Sportsmail in December, Gibbs-White said: ‘I’ve always wanted to play for my country at first-team level and play in big tournaments, but everyone has their time.

‘I’m still working, trying to impress and improve. There are parts of my game I need to improve to get me to that point so hopefully my time will come.’
