Sherif Fathi participates in the meeting of tourism ministers of the seven industrialized countries

Today, Sherif Fathi, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, participated as a keynote speaker in the first international meeting of tourism ministers of the Group of Seven Industrialized Countries (G7 ITALIA 2024), which will be held during the period from 13 to 15 November in the city of Florence, Italy. The Minister’s participation in this meeting came in response to the invitation of the Italian side.

This session was attended by the tourism ministers of the Group of Seven Industrialized Countries, as well as countries that were invited from outside the group, in addition to the presence of officials and representatives from each of the United Nations. United Tourism, the European Union, and the International Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Ambassador Khaled Tharwat, advisor to the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for international relations and general supervisor of the General Department of International Relations and Agreements at the ministry, and Ahmed Nabil, assistant minister of tourism and antiquities for aviation and follow-up, attended.

During his speech, Sherif Fathi, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, spoke about the uses of artificial intelligence (AI) and its various technologies and applications in the tourism industry and their positive effects, especially in improving travel experiences and designing tourism programs according to the needs of individuals, and its contribution to enhancing Security and safety measures and procedures, and providing easy access to various information.

He pointed out that artificial intelligence provides a greater opportunity to promote tourism products more effectively, pointing out that some artificial intelligence techniques were used when implementing one of the Ministry’s promotional campaigns, which It produced wonderful results that confirmed the effectiveness of using these technologies in the field of tourism.

He explained that the machine has a great learning power, as it learns and develops on its own, and he added that for this reason we need a mechanism to have the ability to control.

He also reviewed some of the main challenges facing the use of artificial intelligence, including the necessity of formulating a legal framework for applications and practices of artificial intelligence. He explained that determining the legal framework for this is something that can be implemented, but it faces many challenges, among which is the need for this legal framework to be dynamically; Because the machine continues to learn and develop, which is very difficult as it may cause many problems that affect the tourists’ experience.

He also talked about that there is another challenge facing the regulatory authorities, which is that they need technical expertise and monitoring. A periodic synchronization with the development of artificial intelligence to be able to amend and develop these regulations on an ongoing basis, and to have a reference code and regulatory framework for the use of artificial intelligence, ensuring that automated learning and development do not get out of control, in addition to developing the necessary incentives to warn when these rules or regulations are exceeded. It was put in place.

Daniella Garniero Santanchi, Minister of Tourism of Italy, was keen to extend special thanks to Mr. Sherif Fathi for the good and warm reception she witnessed during her recent visit to Egypt at the end of last October, praising the many existing and fruitful aspects of cooperation with Egypt.
