Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, affirmed Lebanon’s commitment to the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, stressing the need to strengthen the Lebanese army in numbers and equipment and to cooperate with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon..
This came during his meeting today with a French delegation that included the Director General of Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Frederic Mondolini, the Director General of International and Strategic Relations at the Ministry of Defense, Alice Rivaux, the Deputy Director of North Africa and the Middle East at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emmanuel Soucah, and a number of advisors in the French Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs, in the presence of the French Ambassador in Lebanon Herve Magro. Advisor to the Speaker of the Parliament, Dr. Mahmoud Berri, also participated in the meeting.
The meeting discussed the general situation in Lebanon and the region in light of Israel’s continued aggression against Lebanon and the Gaza Strip .
