Emily Bader’s Poppy And Tom Blyth’s Alex Dance Between Friendship And More In Netflix’s ‘People We Meet On Vacation’ Trailer

The trailer for Netflix’s film adaptation of Emily Henry’s People We Meet On Vacationdirected by Brett Haley, is here.
The romantic comedy will provide a much-needed cure for post-holiday blues arriving on Netflix Jan. 9, 2026.
The clip opens on Alan Ruck as Poppy Wright’s (Emily Bader) father, opening the front door to their house to Tom Blyth’s Alex Nilsen before Poppy and Alex go on one of their traditional trips. Fans of the book will know the scene as soon as Poppy’s mother Wanda (Molly Shannon) waltzes in with a box of 500 condoms because she wants the pair to be safe.
“How many times do I have to tell you, Alex and I are just friends, so we don’t need condoms,” Poppy tells Wanda. “We definitely don’t need 500 because we’re not an army.”
The story follows Poppy, a travel writer whose wanderlust takes her all over the world. In college, she met Alex Nilsen, about as opposite from her as it gets, but the pair made a pact to take a trip every summer and “meet somewhere in the world.”
“On vacation, you can be who you want to be instead of who they say you are,” she confides in Alex one night, which prompts him to suggest their yearly tradition.
Cue the montage of gorgeous houses, a wild night in a blue wig for Poppy that results in a twisted ankle and Alex having to carry her and more. Poppy even rearranges one of her rings on her hand to make it look like she and Alex are married to score free beignets “on the house for the love birds.”

It’s all fun and games, though, until the almost kiss.
“What was that?” Alex asks Poppy, who backs away with tears in her eyes, saying “I’m just confused.
“What am I to you?” he asks.
Cut to Blyth with Sarah Catherine Hook as presumably Sarah Torval and Poppy with Lucien Laviscount as presumably Trey on a joint couples trip. Readers will know who Sarah and Trey are.
“I think it’s called settling,” Poppy tells Alex later.
“You live in a fantasy land, always running away to new places, new connections,” he retorts.
Then comes what looks like Alex’s brother’s wedding, where Alex’s dad calls Poppy “a heck of a girl.”
People We Meet On Vacation marks the first adaptation of one of Emily Henry’s romantic novels, many of which are also currently in development. The book of the same name has sold more than 2 million copies, spending 69 weeks on the New York Times Best Sellers list. Henry has sold more than 8 million books across all of her titles, the most recent of which — Great Big Beautiful Life — arrived in April this year. She has spent a cumulative 157 weeks on the NYT Best Sellers list.
