Horror incident on airport tarmac sparks chaos as flights are delayed and passengers are left stranded on their plane

A major airport was thrown into chaos after a worker suffered a ‘medical event’ on the tarmac, sparking flight delays.

Emergency services responded to a medical incident at Auckland Airport, in New Zealand, at about 11am on Monday.

Travellers on at least one flight bound for the South Island were left to sit on the plane for nearly an hour.

An Auckland Airport spokesman told Daily Mail: ‘Airport Emergency Services responded to a medical event this morning involving an airport worker.’

The spokesman confirmed two domestic flights were delayed.

One patient, in a moderate condition, was transported to Middlemore Hospital, the New Zealand Herald reported.

Passengers were reportedly told a worker had suffered a ‘very severe event’ and ‘could not be moved’.

Both arrivals and departures were impacted by the incident.
