Lebanon: Berri signs the draft budget law for the current year and refers it to the Prime Minister

Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, signed the draft law on the general budget of the Lebanese state for the current year and referred it to the Prime Minister.

The budget is scheduled to enter into force with the Prime Minister’s signature on it in his capacity as Head of Government and his signature on it in his capacity as Prime Minister, who assumes the powers of the President of the Republic in light of the presidential vacuum in the country.

On January 26, the Lebanese Parliament approved the draft budget law presented by the government last September within the constitutional deadlines for the first time since 2002. The Finance and Budget Committee discussed and amended the draft law, which included significant increases in fees and taxes, with the imposition of an exceptional tax on some Companies.
