Messi says about the World Cup: “I have dreamed of the cup so many times, and I have wanted to hold it, to the point that I have not yet believed… that we have won it.”
The global initiative, which is organized by Sotheby’s Auction House, in cooperation with Lionel Messi, is to display for sale at auction a group of shirts that Messi wore during the first half of the final match, the semi-final matches, the quarter-final matches, the round of 16, and two group stage matches. Dedicated to it online, starting from November 30th, until next December 14th, the value of the exceptional collection is estimated at more than $10 million, and this auction is expected to achieve the highest value of sports memorabilia.
The auction aims to donate a portion of its proceeds to the “UNICAS” project, which is implemented by the Sant Joan de Déu (SJD) Children’s Hospital in Barcelona, with support from the Leo Messi Foundation, to meet the needs of children suffering from rare diseases. This comes in the wake of work completed by the Leo Messi Foundation with the Children’s Cancer Center at the SJD Children’s Hospital in Barcelona, which treats 400 children with cancer every year.
