Off Campus breakout star Mika Abdalla and her long-time partner and fiancé, Jake Short, have officially called it quits.
In a statement to Us Weekly, a representative for Abdalla, who met Short on the set of Hulu’s Sex Appeal back in 2021, confirmed the pair have gone their separate ways.
“Due to recent interest in Mika’s personal life, it would feel remiss to not address that her and Jake are no longer together,” her rep told the publication.
“They continue to support each other and remain on friendly terms, and kindly ask for privacy and respect.”
At the time of writing, neither party have come out publicly with their own statements regarding the split or shared the reason why they’ve called off their engagement. However, photos of each other remain on their Instagram accounts.
Abdalla’s relationship update comes on the heels of Off Campus‘ recent announcement, in which it revealed that season two will revolve around her character, Allie, and Dean’s (Stephen Kalyn) love story.
“One couple made a deal. The next one is keeping score,” a social media post made by the Off Campus‘ official account read.
“From Garrett & Hannah to Dean & Allie — the Off Campus love story continues in Season 2.”
In an interview with Variety, showrunner Louisa Levy spilled more tea regarding the highly anticipated second season, revealing that “all eight scripts [for season two] are written, and we have a very exciting plan for the season. I don’t want to say anything yet — but I think book fans will be very excited”.
“We are so excited to continue Allie and Dean’s story as our primary romance of season two after kickstarting their romance in season one,” series creator Levy said in a statement.
“But if you fell in love with Hannah and Garrett, don’t worry — they will still be an integral part of our robust ensemble. We’re looking forward to telling the next chapter of everyone’s story. There’s a lot for fans to look forward to!” she said.
For those who are itching for that second season, we unfortunately have no further tea besides the fact that Abdalla and Kalyn will be taking centre stage.
But hey, at least that gives us HEAPS of time to watch and yearn with season one, right?
