Rape allegation rocks Melbourne footy club as Maribyrnong Park player Hudson Mistry accused of eight offences

A suburban football club stalwart has been charged with raping and assaulting a woman.

Maribyrnong Park Football Club player Hudson Mistry fronted Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday, charged with multiple serious sex offences.

Mistry, 22, pleaded not guilty to eight charges, including rape, assault and multiple counts of sexual assault.

The court ordered Mistry not to contact the alleged victim and remain at a fixed address in Moonee Ponds.

It’s alleged Mistry raped and sexually assaulted a young woman in Aberfeldie, a suburb in Melbourne’s inner-northwest, in mid-2023.

The alleged rape and assault took place a short distance from the Moonee Ponds home ground of the Maribyrnong Park Lions, nicknamed ‘The Den’.

The club competes in the premier division of one of Melbourne’s top leagues, the Essendon District Football League (EDFL).

It’s not suggested Mistry’s alleged conduct was linked to the club or the league.

Mistry also allegedly sexually assaulted the same victim five times and assaulted her a second time in various suburbs across Melbourne’s northwest.

Victoria Police sex crime detectives charged Mistry on December 31 last year.

It’s understood Mistry began playing for the Lions as a junior in 2014 and was recently playing in the club’s thirds team.

Mistry also played a role in the club’s U18.5 Men’s Reserves Premier Division team, which won the 2025 premiership.

There are no stats to suggest Mistry has played a game for the club this season.

Mistry, of Moonee Ponds, had his bail extended to appear in court later this year.
