The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Governor of the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, Dr. Muhammad bin Saud Al-Tamimi, participated in the work of the annual meeting of the United Nations Commission on Broadband and Sustainable Development, with the aim of enhancing the contribution of the communications, space and technology sector in achieving the sustainable development goals, and proposing policies and recommendations to bridge the digital gap, in addition to enhancing And development of the digital economy.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA, under the title “Digital Communication – An Opportunity for Transformation,” witnessed the participation of high-level officials from various government and industrial sectors around the world, during which they discussed a group of important issues, including the role of… Investment and financing in bridging the global digital divide and connecting the 2.6 billion people around the world who are not connected to the Internet, and the challenges and obstacles in the digital environment.

The Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development is one of the committees affiliated with the United Nations. It is co-chaired by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, and the businessman Carlos Slim, while His Excellency the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union and His Excellency the Director-General of UNESCO are acting chairs of the Commission.
