Lorenzo Carter has informed the Tennessee Titans he is retiring from the NFL, just four months after signing for the team.

Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi made the announcement on Tuesday, a day ahead of the opening of training camp.

Borgonzi revealed Carter had informed him of his decision to walk away 24 hours earlier.

It was announced on March 20 that the Titans had signed the veteran edge rusher, 29.

Carter, a third-round pick by the Giants in 2018, spent four seasons in New York and appeared in 49 games. During that span, the 29-year-old amassed 153 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, and 14.5 sacks.

The edge has spent the last three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons.

Carter enjoyed a solid college football career with the Georgia Bulldogs from 2014 to 2017, reaching the National Championship game in his final season.
