The Ukrainian Armed Forces use the “Patriot” system against the Russian Su-34 and 35 fighters

According to sources in the Russian defense industries sector, Kiev is also trying to use the French S-200 and SAMP/T systems.

Arab Defense website-August 15, 2025: Since the end of 2023, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have intensified the use of S-200, SAMP/T and Patriot anti-aircraft anti-aircraft fighters. A source in the Russian defense industries sector told TASS that the air defense systems have objected, during the past eighteen months, nearly 20 anti -aircraft missiles targeting Russian Space Air Force planes.

The source said: “Since the end of 2023, the enemy has been intensively attempts to use anti-aircraft missile systems against the Russian Su-34 and 35 fighters, which are: S-200 (with 5b28/5B21 missiles), the French SAMP/T system (with ASETER-30 missiles), and the American Patriot system (with MIM-104D missiles).

He explained that “during the past year and a half, Russian air defense crews intercepted about twenty missiles directed to a western aircraft, which were fired at Russian Space Air Force aircraft at high -level speeds ranging between 870 and 1,178 meters per second (up to 3.5 Mach).” The source added: “About half of these missiles were MIM-104D of the American Patriot system.”

Ukraine gets three Patriot systems and seeks to get another seven

Ukrainian President Folodimir Zellinski announced today, Thursday, August 15, 2025, that his country had received assurances from international partners to provide financing to buy three Patriot air defense systems, while talks are being held to secure financing for seven additional systems.

He said Zellinski for reporters: “I received an official confirmation from Germany to provide us with two systems, and from Norway with one system, and we are currently working with our Dutch partners.”

US President Donald Trump had announced earlier this month the allocation of billions of dollars in US weapons to Ukraine, including Patriot missiles, which opened the door to negotiations between international partners to determine contributions to the plan to buy these weapons, a process that will determine the size of the support that Ukraine will receive.

Patriot systems have proven their effectiveness in destroying Russian ballistic missiles targeting Ukrainian cities. With Russia intensifying its air attacks this summer, Ukraine was forced to adopt new tactics, including resorting to the means of intercepting drones.

Zelinski indicated that the production of the objection has already begun, appreciating the “urgent cost” of these efforts at about 6 billion dollars.

In addition to securing the air defense supplies, the Ukrainian president explained that his country needs to fill a financing gap of 40 billion dollars next year, with the need for an additional $ 25 billion to produce missiles, running planes and electronic warfare systems.

Zelinski stressed that these defensive systems are necessary to repel the Russian forces that exceed numbers and pressure the fronts of the fighting in eastern Ukraine and along a confrontation line exceeding 1,000 km. “They have more soldiers, more pressure, and a wider crowd,” he said, but he denied any major breakthroughs.

Kiev is also seeking to obtain additional financing to pay the salaries of the army, explaining: “Previously, the Europeans were refusing to finance our military salaries and their support is limited to weapons.” He added: “But it seems that our soldiers themselves can be the weapon that protects everyone.”
