What does the full moon mean for YOUR star sign? Astrologer warns Aussies to brace for ’emotional’ full moon and eclipse

Australians are being warned to prepare for an emotional shake-up this month, as September’s Harvest Full Moon coincides with a rare total lunar eclipse – creating what one astrologer has described as a ‘destiny moment.’

Psychic and intuitive astrologer Rose Smith, who runs Absolute Soul Secrets says the celestial event will peak in the early hours of Monday, September 8.

‘Having a total lunar eclipse during the Harvest Full Moon is a wonderful entwinement of lunar energy which can really allow us to feel her power,’ Ms Smith said.

‘It’s not just a spectacle in the sky – it’s a turning point. This Harvest Moon in Pisces will push us to release old baggage, embrace our intuition, and step into a brand-new chapter.

‘For some, this really could be a make-or-break time in relationships, work, or their personal lives.’

What makes this eclipse so powerful?

The full moon will occur in Pisces – a sign known for sensitivity, compassion and intuition.

And because the eclipse aligns with the North Node, a karmic point linked to life direction, Ms Smith says it could force some people into making big decisions they’ve been putting off.

‘This is what I call a ‘destiny moment’,’ she said.

‘For many people, it could feel like the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Decisions about relationships, career or identity may no longer be avoided. It’s karmic, it’s fated, and for most of us it will be very difficult to sidestep. The universe is asking us to evolve – ready or not.’

While the process may be uncomfortable, she says the payoff could be profound.

‘Jupiter in Cancer forms a supportive trine to this eclipse, suggesting that while endings may feel painful, they are clearing the path for blessings and future growth,’ she said.

Ms Smith warned that emotions will be running high.

‘Emotional release will be strong. Old wounds, regrets, and the ghosts of past relationships could resurface, but this is not to punish us. It’s to show us what we’ve outgrown and what needs to be released.’

She described the eclipse as a ‘cleansing tide,’ adding that full moons are already about release – but an eclipse ‘supercharges this process.’

‘You may find yourself letting go of old patterns, emotional baggage, or situations that no longer serve you,’ she said.

People with water signs (Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio) and mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) are expected to feel the intensity most.

Why is it called a Harvest Moon and a Blood Moon?

The September full moon is traditionally known as the Harvest Moon because it is the closest full moon to the Spring Equinox in the southern hemisphere (and the Autumn Equinox in the north). Farmers once relied on its bright light to gather crops after sunset.

‘This moon symbolises reaping what we’ve sown – both literally and spiritually. It’s a time to harvest the lessons of the past year, let go of what no longer serves us, and prepare for new beginnings,’ Ms Smith said.

During a total lunar eclipse, the moon often takes on a reddish hue as Earth’s shadow falls across it – hence the nickname ‘Blood Moon.’

‘The name can sound ominous, but astrologically it represents emotional intensity and transformation,’ Ms Smith explained.

When and where to watch the September full moon

The lunar eclipse will be visible across Australia. It will begin at 3:30am AEST, peak at 4:11am, and end at 4:52am on September 8.

Sky-watchers in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth should all be able to catch the event if they’re up early enough.

Ms Smith says the effects of the eclipse won’t vanish when the moon sets – they can be felt for up to six months.

What’s next?

This isn’t the only powerful cosmic shift happening in September. Two weeks later, on September 22, a partial solar eclipse in Virgo will bring external change and action.

Then, on September 23, the Spring Equinox arrives in Australia, marking equal hours of day and night.

‘The lunar eclipse is feminine energy – a culmination within. The solar eclipse will be masculine energy – taking action on what you’ve realised,’ Ms Smith said.

‘With so many powerful celestial events occurring in quick succession, September is a month of pressure and turbulence – but also one of renewal and clarity.’
