If Barbie pink was the color of summer 2023 and slime green the shade of 2024’s Brat Summer, then it only makes sense that Wicked Green usher in fall 2024. One year later, and the dark olive green — Elphaba’s skin color in the beloved musical — is once again splashed atop everything from sweatpants and nail polish to shoulder bags and sunglasses ahead of the adaptation’s second installment.

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo star as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, in the long-awaited “Wicked: For Good”, set to release next month. And Universal isn’t wasting any time marketing the film with as much fervor as they did the first time around.

“We live in an environment where monoculture doesn’t happen in the way it used to,” Universal chief marketing officer Michael Moses told Variety during the marketing onslaught ahead of the first film. “So, you have to be everywhere.”

Of course, like any high-saturation marketing moment, not every piece of merch or branded apparel is worth the buy. Sometimes brands agree to a partnership to make sure they’re a part of the cultural conversation, but care less about the tangible product they put out. Plus, brands know there are enough “Wicked”-heads to fly any green and pink-hued limited-edition merch off the shelves no matter the product.
