Mom accused of horrific ‘murder-for-hire’ plot is given a lifeline… but is forced to face the TV anchor husband she claims is a monster

A Tennessee mother was accused of hiring a hitman to murder her TV anchor ex-husband. Now, after being released from jail on bond five months ago, she has been granted phone privileges for the first time.

Angelina ‘Angie’ Solomon was arrested on April 11 after prosecutors claim she allegedly concocted the plot with an undercover cop posing as a hitman.

Prosecutors say Angie planned to have her husband, Aaron Solomon, a former morning anchor for WSMV4, killed in response to years of what she claimed were years of alleged abuse, and because she believes he killed their 18-year-old son, Grant. Aaron has denied her accusations against him.

The pair were divorced, and Grant was living with his mother and sister. On the day he met his father, they were meeting in Gallatin. Grant hadn’t been alone with his father for months, and he drove approximately 50 miles to meet him for a private pitching session that his father had arranged.

However, Grant died mysteriously. His truck rolled backwards over him at the side of the road on July 20, 2020. His father claimed he was the only witness.

His death was ruled an accident, but his mother believes something more sinister took place and said she has been fighting for justice and a more thorough investigation.

Angie was charged with solicitation to commit first-degree murder and pleaded not guilty. She was released from jail in May after posting a $250,000 bond, but was placed on strict house arrest and was required to wear a GPS monitor.

One of her conditions was to refrain from using any electronic devices, including cell phones, computers, the internet, and any landlines.

However, a court decision last month allowing her access to a phone has given her a lifeline to contact their 18-year-old daughter, Gracie.

Angie has found it difficult to be isolated from the teen, who started her first year of college in August, and was forced to miss Parents’ Weekend last month. Gracie does not have a relationship with her father.

Angie’s close friend Melanie Hicks told the Daily Mail that she and a few friends helped move Gracie into her new school and get her settled.

‘All of these rights that were taken away from Gracie’s mother,’ Hicks said. ‘It has been devastating for [Angie].’

Angie’s attorney, public defender Greg Burlison, said to Judge Joseph Woodruff, in part: ‘Since Ms Solomon’s release in May, she has demonstrated to the court that she can accept and abide by the conditions that have been placed on her.’

He told the court she has been in ‘solitary confinement’ in her own home.

The attorney researched the phone before the court hearing. He pointed out that the device known as a GABB phone, has no internet or social media capabilities, but has texting and phone abilities.

‘Your honor, what we recommend is a device (called) GABB. There are similar options, but that would be the particular device. It does no require e a specific provider. If the court has a preference, we would certainly get one, either T-Mobile or AT&T.’

The judge responded, in part: ‘The only thing that I would insist upon is if you are expecting the court to approve something very tailored and very specific,’ he said, in part.

The few numbers programmed into the phone would be Angie’s daughter, her attorneys, and her doctors.

During the September 29 hearing, Angie – wearing makeup, a dark blazer, and a turtleneck – looked a world away from the orange jumpsuit and handcuffs she was sporting just months earlier.  TAKE OUT

She listened intently to Woodruff as he spoke, while her ex, Aaron, sat in the public gallery, taking notes.

It is unclear why Aaron was present at that court hearing and others, which has left some of Angie’s supporters baffled.

Hicks wanted to know why he was there. ‘If her ex claims that she put a hit out on him, why is he showing up at court?’ she told the Daily Mail.

Williamson County District Attorney Stacey Edmonson, whose office is handling the case, has not responded to the Daily Mail’s request for comment.

Angie and Aaron had been divorced for 10 years at the time of Grant’s death, and both children were living with their mother.

Aaron has emphatically denied the claims that he abused his wife and children, and killed his son Grant.

When Grant turned 18, Angie claimed her son was planning to expose his father’s alleged abuse, but, less than a month after his birthday, he died.

Gracie also accused her father of historic sex abuse in a YouTube video published in May 2021, when she was just 14.

Angie has been a pharmacist for more than 20 years. After her arrest, she lost her job and then her home, Hicks said.

Friends have been helping her with her living arrangements, which, for what they say are safety reasons, cannot be disclosed, bringing her food and trying to keep her spirits up.

‘She has a strong faith in God and knows that God has a plan for her,’ Hicks added.

An audio recording was played at a prior court hearing, revealing the conversation Angie had with an undercover officer posing as a hitman who was actually a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) agent.

Angie could be heard telling the hired gun she wanted to make her ex ‘disappear and be put underground,’ for allegedly abusing her and their children. She also alleged her ex-husband killed their 18-year-old son, Grant Solomon.

Aaron, who had been in the courtroom with someone who appeared to be his attorney, watched as the two undercover agents from the TBI and a detective from the Franklin County Police Department testified. Hicks was also a witness during the court proceeding.

The judge lowered her $500,000 bond to $250,000, ordered her to house arrest, and prohibited her from using the internet or a cell phone.

The TBI was assisting the Franklin Police Department, which was the lead on the case. Details in the case have not been disclosed.

On April 11, prosecutors say Angie met up with the alleged hitman at around 2 pm in the CoolSprings Galleria Mall parking lot in Franklin, Tennessee.

Angie allegedly told the ‘hitman’ that she wanted (Aaron) ‘gone.’ She also made mention of a trust friend Aaron had.

At one point during the meeting, she asked the informant if she was being recorded. He told her he wasn’t.

When he asked Angie what she wanted done, she said: ‘I want you to do whatever you could to a man knowing he raped and sodomized my girl before she could remember, and whatever you could do to a man who took his own beautiful 18-year-old son out to a very, very remote location,’ according to the audio played in court.

One of Angie’s theories was that Grant was hit over the head with one of his baseball bats that was missing from the truck.

The undercover cop said he had a few ideas and suggested the plan could cost about $5,000. She gave him her car registration as collateral and suggested future cash.

At one point on the audio, Angie is heard saying Gracie lives in fear of her father, and described him as ‘a cross between Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy.’

Angie was heard on the audio crying at times and called herself ‘a very naive person.’

She described what she was doing as ‘vigilante justice of the olden days.’

Detective Kyle Brink with the Franklin Police Department testified that Angie had considered having two other individuals killed as part of the murder for hire plot. Those individuals were not named, but Brink said they were warned.

After Judge MT Taylor imposed the reduction in bail and strict house arrest.  He said, ‘If someone slips her a telephone, she’s going to go right back to jail.’

Hicks said in a prior interview with Daily Mail that she has known Angie for years, claimed her alleged actions were ‘completely out of character’ and that ‘she would never jeopardize her daughter’s safety.’

Hicks expressed her frustration that news outlets are only focusing on the arrest and not the backstory of Grant’s death.

‘There is overwhelming support of people saying, ‘Please share the whole back story.’ People are frustrated,’ Hicks said

Grant had been on his way to meet his father for a private pitching session at Ward Performance Institute, a baseball training facility in Gallatin, approximately 50 miles from his home in Franklin, Tennessee.

But less than 10 minutes after Grant arrived, Aaron called 911 and said his son was trapped under his white Toyota pick-up truck at the foot of a ditch.

He gave a statement to the Gallatin Police Department.

Police later ruled the incident a freak accident, but Angie remained suspicious and claimed there had been no proper police investigation or autopsy.

She hired Private Investigator Dan Hodges, who had worked with the FBI for 30 years, to launch an investigation.

Hodges claimed ‘it was impossible for Grant Solomon to die without assistance.’

Hicks told the Daily Mail the family obtained the black box recording on Grant’s vehicle. The black box showed that the truck had been placed in park, and the gas pedal was shown at various speeds, which Hicks claimed to the Daily Mail contradicted Aaron’s narrative of the truck rolling backwards down the hill.

‘The black box evidence could be a game changer in the case,’ Hicks said in April.

‘How did the truck get into park while Grant was underneath it?’ Hicks questioned during a prior interview with the Daily Mail.

‘The family questions if the truck was staged on top of Grant,’ she said.

‘The truck did not appear to have malfunctioned as Aaron drove it for months after Grant’s alleged accident,’ she said previously.

Sumner County District Attorney Ray Whitley told the Daily Mail in February 2024 that Grant’s death was an accident and that the case would not be reopened.

Aaron has never been charged with any crimes. He currently resides in Tennessee and works as a senior financial analyst for Merrill Lynch.

Aaron has not responded to the Daily Mail’s requests for comment.

Angie is expected to return to the Williamson County court for a review hearing on November 7.
