The TRUTH behind Justin Bieber’s relationship with his mom… and the real meaning of her cryptic prayer

Tensions between Justin Bieber and his mother appeared to flare last month – very publicly.

The pop star’s mother, Pattie Mallette, 50, shared a heartfelt prayer for her son on Instagram after he announced he was taking a break from touring to focus on his health.

Alongside a series of black-and-white photos of Justin, the Canadian author wrote a lengthy post on Instagram invoking God, the Holy Spirit, and prayers for protection and healing.

While Mallette’s message seemed born out of love and concern, Bieber’s reply left fans stunned.

‘Only thing I need healing from is my rolled pinky toe from playing ping pong,’ the 31-year-old singer wrote in a comment under his mom’s post.

Fans thought the comment came across as dismissive, and further raised eyebrows among those already worried about his recent erratic public appearances and cryptic social media posts.

It also stoked the flames of speculation about the state of Bieber’s relationship with his parents, which he has previously described as ‘complicated.’

But an insider close to Bieber told the Daily Mail there was no tension behind the exchange, and revealed what the playful remark really says about their bond.

Our source said Bieber was simply joking, and understood his mother’s gesture.

‘I get that it seemed dismissive or rude,’ the source told the Daily Mail, ‘but it was written with a smirk, not a growl. He knew what she was saying. It was just a joke, and he appreciates her prayers.’ 

In the lengthy prayer, Mallette wrote: ‘I declare freedom, strength, clarity, and healing over you Justin. Every chain of fear, confusion, heaviness, and pain – be broken in Jesus’ name. Holy Spirit, surround him with TRUTH, LIGHT, and PROTECTION. HEAL EVERY WOUND in his heart, mind and body, seen and unseen, restore what’s been stolen, and cover him in WHOLENESS.’  

She continued, asking for her son to be filled with ‘love and comfort’ and for his life to become a testimony of God’s power. 

‘Fill him to OVERFLOWING with Your LOVE and COMFORT. Continue to raise him up as a voice for Your Kingdom, unshaken and on fire for You Lord. Silence every voice that doesn’t come from You, and let his life be a bold witness of Your power, love, and healing grace.’

The exchange led fans to speculate about Bieber’s ‘wounds,’ with many guessing he was annoyed at his mother for sharing personal information. 

But the Bieber insider said that, while the singer and his mother don’t speak much,  people were reading too much into the prayer and response. 

‘That was a prayer, a hedge of protection,’ the insider told the Daily Mail. ‘It was a blanket prayer. Everyone is focused on the healing of every wound, but it’s a prayer of restoration and protection. 

‘This was her basically asking God to take care of every burden that Justin has, both the ones we know about and the ones we don’t.

‘It’s a stretch to say that she was talking about anything specific.

‘For one thing, she is probably not in a position to know – Justin doesn’t confide those things in her. But for another thing, she was using this as a way to share her faith, not to alert everyone that he is struggling. She’s smarter than that.’

The post, which featured a photo of Bieber wearing a shirt that read ‘Pray for Me,’ drew thousands of supportive comments.

One user wrote, ‘Amen Pattie, remind him for me we are going through this together, and God’s plan will always ultimately prevail.’ 

Another added, ‘This man saved me… and I’m willing to do ANYTHING to pay the debt #BelieberForever.’

Others reassured concerned fans that nothing was ‘wrong’ with Bieber. 

‘It’s just a mother’s prayer,’ one comment read.

Bieber has been open about his struggles with fame, mental health and physical illness in recent years – including his 2022 Ramsay Hunt syndrome diagnosis, which caused partial facial paralysis.

Last week, he turned heads while looking disheveled at an invitation-only sports game in Los Angeles.

But there are bright spots in Bieber’s world. He appears to be in the midst of a career renaissance, as it was revealed last month that he will headline the 2026 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

After he booked the gig, sources confirmed to Rolling Stone that he secured a record-breaking paycheck of more than $10 million to do the festival.

‘Justin is doing okay,’ our source told the Daily Mail. 

‘He has had some struggles, many of them he doesn’t want to share. But he’s immersing himself in prayer and Bible study, surrounding himself with people who love him and are in his corner, regardless of his fame. 

‘Justin has really shed himself of hangers-on who want to be with him because he’s Justin Bieber. 

‘He and Hailey have had ups and downs, but he’s talking about how much he loves her, and how much he loves Jack. He’s committed to being the man he can be for them.’

The Daily Mail reached out to Bieber’s representatives for comment, but has not heard back.
